I Wonder if it gives them a Special Flavor.

In Lancaster's Old Settlers and Eastwood cemeteries, the Lancaster Cub Scout Pack 9 tapped trees as part of a project after receiving permission.

it takes a lot of maple sap to boil down to make maple syrup -- sap is the "life blood" of a maple tree --- in this case they are trees that clearly feed off the minerals of the decayed bodies in the nearby ground -- I guess they could "raise money" for the "vampire troop" by selling the syurp--they could call it "voodoo" maple syrup

in the boy scouts I was part of in my youth -- we did nothing in a graveyard except helping put tombstones upright that had fallen over or assisting in cleaning up a abandon one -- this would have NEVER occured or even be thought of for that matter.

In this case I'd bet it is actually Outside the Cemetery

but by some standards the closeness to it
makes it the problem with some

by the pic it looks like it's on the edge.
pic could have been taken from a sidewalk
or road

looks awfully close to me -- too close for comfert .

Not sure what the problem is here :dontknow:??? Are we really worried that we are consuming part of a dead body because a little sap was collected from a cemetary tree?? Nothing to see here, move along...

bet that maple syrup's "to die for."

I would have to agree here and also with Ivan's first comment. I have no clue what got got into the scouts heads looking to tap trees on cemetery property. To me it boarders on the the disrespectful side, not in conjunction with all the good work the scouts normally provide. Permission, or not; they should find another site in my opinion.

I suppose that the sport of being "offended" has reached the depths of the long lost. The dead people are now offended that the scouts are taking sap from maple trees near a cemetery :help:.. All is lost!!!

It appears to either be on , or abut the cemetery.. , but then again GPURS may be on to something. I say knock down the tombstones and open up a nice golf course, after all we have way to may burial places and not enough recreational spaces for the living to enjoy.

Somewhere I read an archie speculating that there was not a square yard of dirt on well traveled
ground that did not have a body on/in it from one era or another . How's that fit the squemish ?
Better get a drink of water ;D

I think it's because people don't want to see "industry" or "money making ventures" where the holey ground is. If it were me, and I knew, for example, that _X_ companies was putting up free internet access in cemeteries, I would have a problem with it. Cemeteries are a place for peace and quiet. No commercialism. But, at the same time, you might have someone doing a very quite maple tap that only gives them their own interest (non-commerce), but... people just don't want to see that in a cemetery.

A cemetery is a place for nothing other than remembering the loved ones. Nothing else. it's a 'sacred ground', a SACRED ground. That's why they call them cemeteries.

the old skulls could make a nifty golfs holes for playing putt putt golf -- ok kids first one to sink one on grandpa's mouth wins.

Kind of like what we do with the pyramids. We dig up the graves and look at them... all the while, if you were to do that a 1000 years ago, people would have a problem with it becuase it was there kin. So, let me ask you... If someone wanted to play golf in your moms mouth, would you be mad???

I do not believe in digging up bodies or removing them from their resting spot * by anyone -- if a site is a known burial ground leave it be-- ship wrecks are accident sites -- battle feilds are war zones -- now "known burial sites" on or near by the battle fields do not disturb them -- the battle feild its self might have scattered remains upon it --if uncovered -- simple say "sorry" and replace them where found --as far as bodies go --- I'm a take a small dna sample if needed for science reasons --photograph , measure and replace the remains . -- I do not hold with "grave robbing"

If the spirits of the folks who are buried here don't mind the scouts tapping a few maple trees, why should anyone here? If THEY didn't want it there, THEY would let it be known.
If the truth be known, the spirits of those folks probably appreciated good syrup in their day and also probably follow the scouts to kibbutz their work on those trees.
It's not like they were doing the processing on site. Just setting up and recovering a few buckets.

i just noticed the tree has a shadow the stones dont.
could that be because it's a composit pic
or fruther from the stones then it appears,
or time of day ?

The large stone on the Left if that close; I would
think the Shadow should pass the Tree
