I have always wondered who had the job of counting all the fish in the ocean so we know when they are thinning out.

I think they get an idea of decreasing populations when the commercial harvest is low. Compare it to hunting. They would know that the deer population was low if the hunters harvest numbers were low. All hunting and fishing needs to be monitered, esp. when its wasteful.
 

Poetic justice would be if shark fins contained high amounts of mercury....
 

Would someone who has actually eaten shark-fin soup tell us what it tastes like?
