Since I've just come aboard this site I'm trying to get things figured out. For example, is this forum the proper place to ask a technical question regarding a particular metal detector? I'll wait for a reply before getting into it. Thank you.

As good a place as any - Welcome, and ask away! :occasion14:

I have a White's Coinmaster 6000Di Series 3. I was trying to use it but when I try to ground balance the unit by setting the GEB dial, it doesn't seem to be acting correctly. Its acts sort of like the old radios that when they have sat too long and when you turn the know you gets spikes of loud "white" noise ( no pun intended ). I'm wondering if this is just a matter of opening it up and trying to get to the internals of that switch and spray it down with electrical cleaner or does this sound like a bigger issue or neither. I don't recall having this problem last time I used it, which isn't often enough. Probably why its acting like this.

Be sure you install new batteries. When the voltage drops below 8 volts on a White's machine anything can happen. If the batteries are good then it might be a coil issue. If you can't solve the problem send it to White's Electronics Sweet Home, OR. They will go over the machine, fix anything that needs repair, replace defective parts, and return it in "like new" condition. Hope this helps, Tt

is the noise directly related to moving the knob?
if so it could just be dried out or dirty.
never hurts to give it a light spray

Dirty pot. Try the contact cleaner, it can only help or do nothing. You can buy a replacement pot for it also if it doesn't work.

They still work on these older machines? That would be great.

Yes, thats exactly right. As I turn the knob and even when turning it lower you'll get a spike of noise. I'll give that a try. Thanks

I haven't opened it up yet but I'm going to try and to that pretty soon so I can get to using it. Thanks

Yes, Whites still repairs the Coinmaster 6000di Series. They are very reasonably priced too, especially on their older machines. Tt
