We have been taking advantage of the good Tennessee weather to hunt a few relics. The first pic of relics on the white background is of my hunt at a hard hunted Gen. John Hunt Morgan C.S.A. Cavalry camp. This site is special as I had 2 ancestors who camped there. The Tenn. Trio Feb. 22 (2.5 hour hunt) finds at the newly discovered U.S. picket camp are shown on the orange “Relic Rag” (courtesy of Modern Miner). Still a few relics at that site as Josh dug a coat size eagle button, Dman dug 2 more bullets, & I dug another dropped .54 bullet while we were all on the way back to the trucks to leave. During that hunt, I dug a nice carved lead nipple protector shown in the collage pic. Now, all 3 of us have dug that same exact style carved nipple protector at the picket camp. These nipple protectors kept dirt & moisture out of the firing chamber. Note the impression on the top resulting from the hammer being placed on the protector relieving pressure on the spring. I scouted some property near the U.S. picket camp on 2-24 but eventually gravitated back to the picket camp. My finds are shown on the white background. I dug my first nipple protector carved from a .69 cal. 3 ringer. Ironically, only one .69 cal. 3 ringer has been dug out of the approximately 167 relics we have dug there since 2-11. I also dug a bonus 1892 IH. HH from the Trio, Quindy.
