Tesoro Compadre for Garrett Ace 250

Well, you ought to look at the posts of tabdog and see if you really want to part with the compadre.

If I were going to trade up to the next level, you ought to consider the Silver u-Max instead of the 250.

Why (with all due respect to 250 advocates):

1. Tesoro's lifetime warranty.

2. No digital display to lie to you, which the 250 has done to me repeatedly (u-Max is audio only).

3. No inaccurate depth display (the 250 tends to give me inaccurate readings)

I don't trust the display on the 250 too much and I also think they're too cheaply made. If you want a detector for about $230 that is very lightweight and built far better than the 250, buy the u-Max. I own one and won't sell it.

I second the Silver Umax as it's a very underated detector.

I third the Silver Umax as the better detector.

I bought a 250 about a year and a half ago to see if metal detecting would be "my thing". Now I'm upgrading to a Tejon. I love digging that old junk in the woods. The 250 works really well for working parks and digging clad, considering it's price. And it will dig relics too as long as they're not deep. But, it does have issues around iron. I just posted some pictures of my digs with the 250. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,339977.0.html. I've had fun with it.

I have a 250...its a great detector for what it is but....it really is just about moving up from the prest ground bal machines to the man/auto ground bal machines. Atleast where I live in Norcal. If it where me, I would buy the new whites 5g. About double though...450 new. But yeah, I would buy a tesoro with a preset groundbalance before I bought a 250 again. Apples to apples, but I guess its time for a change from the ace for me. Lifetime warr you cant beat that! Light weight. Also consider the VAQUERO!!!! Low 400's man ground bal! I heard those are really awsome machines!!!! Nice decent coil size stock!!! h h
