Great find. You will soon find out that the Deleon will also find even smaller targets. WTG.

I believe I PMd you telling you just that! The Deleon is an awesome piece of equipment.

Congrats on the find to, nice angel...

Ditto, ibid, and what he said. ;D ;D Noooow maybe you can really understand why I HATE corroded BBs. My Bandido II loves 'em. Now, with my DeLeon, the TID will "tattle" on them and they can stay in the ground. One question, Shane. Did the DeLeon give the same numbers and notch on the angel from all directions? Just curious. Congratulations on a very good "keeper". ;D

Shortstack........I see what you mean now about small pieces of metal! This thing sees it ALL! As far as the reading it seems it jumped to something else and back a few times. 95 then down to something else. I assume this is because of the little hook thats attached to it. Must be zinc or something. I found one just like it here on the net. But mine weighed more than the one I found for sell. When I found it I had the Deleon on near max sensitivity. 0 disc. There was little to no trash in the little tot lot I was in. I guess thats why it picked up on such a small peice so deep. Oh and the gravel was very wet beneath the surface. We had rain the day before. Heres a picture of a new cherub angel pendant.

Shane: I suspect you are right about the hook causing a different notch and number. If the hook is of a different metal the D will tell you. If you take a clad quarter (from the 1990s, with pronounced copper edge), put it at a slant; the D will show 95,silver on one swing into the silver face. Then, a lower number with both zinc and silver notches, usually dancing between the two, on the reverse swing.. That's why I suggested the clad quarter on edge test so you could see the quick change on a single target.

Another finding I made concerning nickels. On one outing, I recovered several nickels from the 1970s that read as 32 with a small notch at the 5 cent AND a full notch at the zinc AT THE SAME TIME. This was while swing from all directions. At first I thought there might be a rotten zinc in the same hole, but when a second coin and then a third had the same response, I knew there weren't THAT many rotten zincs laying around. ;D There are too many other variables that could have caused the reactions. For instance, could a heavy application of lawn fertilizers reacted with the metal in those nickels in some way that caused the screwy readings? Or something else in the soil? All of those nickels were in the same old lawn. Should those readings crop up at another location; well..... I just wanted you to be aware of what happened on that one hunt, just in case you discover some screwy responses of your own.

There's one more thing that I've been meaning to suggest to you. Concentrate on NOT constantly watching the meter. Watch the coil and the area around it as you're searching and use the meter as a back up. Learn the SOUNDS of good and bad targets. You see, back when Whites introduced their first XLTs, I got one and soon found myself relying too much on the screen and not on my ears. I sold that thing and went back to MDs with no meters or other indicators. That's when the Bandido II came into my life and MDing became fun again. The DeLeon is the first TID machine I've bought since. It's still too easy to slip back into letting the machine do all the thinking, so I have to keep reminding myself to "be the boss". ;D
