Has anyone used these? I'm beginning to realize that if I'm going to detect on a regular basis that means I'll have to brave some rain up here in Washington, LOL.

Or, has anyone manufactured their own rain cover for the uMax and found it to work better? I noticed that with the Tesoro rain cover there's no way to adjust the disc except sticking your finger up underneath the cover. If you've made one yourself, please post a pic for others to see.

Ray,
Just a plain zip-loc bag works good for me. They are thick enough to protect, but yet thin enough to operate the controls. And they are about as cheap as you can get.

Honestly, I love Tesoro machines - but IMO their rain covers are kind of just "okay" ;D I'd go with a plastic bag as suggested. There is a company from england (on *bay) that does high quality canvas covers for the Tejon - but last time I checked, they didn't have one for the small umax machines.

I live in the Northwest also.
The plastic bag method works Quite well.
May not look as good but works.
Also u can use a rubber band around the bag to keep it secure.

Yeah, I've thought about the plastic bag trick but wondered if anyone had created something on their own that was a bit more elaborate than just a bag. I guess simplicity is often the way to go, though.

I'd use a bag. I bought a cover for my Deleon. If I'm out on a sunny day the sun would give me fits glaring off of that clear vinyl or whatever it is

A Bag is superior to anything you could buy. That's the only rain cover that'll let ya "thumb the knobs."
