I am looking to upgrade my current detector. I have narrowed it down to the Tiger Shark
and Minelab Excalibur II. I hunt at a salt water beach just once or twice a week.
I am not the type who likes to spend time learning multiple tones or settings.
Just want a detector that is pretty much turn on and go. Something for both dry
sand, wet sand and occasionally up to waste deep water on the calm days. I know the Excalibur II
has a good reputation, but is it really worth twice the cost of the Tiger Shark?
Any opinions welcomed.
Thanks,
Steve

It is more than twice the preformance of the Tiger Shark which is my back up to the Excal. While the Tiger sounds off on all targets, Iron and up at a low disc setting, the Excal will sound off on a good target under a piece of iron unlike the Tiger Shark. Also the Excal has a DD coil which covers more area that the same size 10 concentric coil of the tiger ( means you don't have to overlab as much). It is lots deeper too. Forget learning the tones, if it makes a sound it most likely isn't trash so you will dig it. Soon you will be able to tell what it is by the sound.

As for price, if your not going to get it wet, check out the Minelab Sov GT. Hipmounted it is a great detector for all the areas you mentioned an is like a land version of the Excal only with extra features.

Thanks Sandman for the reply. I found a nice used Excalibur for just a little more than the
Tiger Shark and figured I would go for it. Have read a lot of your post's on the Excalibur
and can't wait to give it a try.
