MD enthusiasts working out of Tucumcari, Fort Sumner, west to Las Vegas might find it worthwhile to do some research on the Texan-Santa Fe Expedition of 1841, with particular attention to the places they surrendered [at least in New Mexico] The smaller surrender site's near Anton Chico, larger group surrendered near Montoya at Laguna Colorado.
A friend of mine picked up a few good pieces at the Anton Chico site, worked a bit more heavily at Laguna Colorado and believed he hadn't even scratched the surface at the time of his death.
Texans further east in the Amarillo/Canyon area could probably do fairly well where the main group had such troubles, mutiny, Kiowa/Quahadi attacks, etc, and were marooned for a while more or less.
