Well, I am not celebrating Thanksgiving Day traditional as it conflicts with the German life and schedule since the younger kids are in school and older son has to work. We decided to do the turkey on Sunday as we usually have a big lunch with the family and in-laws anyway. I am off work most of the week and that is a great thing. Getting out detecting has been fun as I have lots of time. Here are the finds from about 6 hours and 4 fields. Two pewter buttons, an aluminum thimble in poor condition, two German WWII uniform buttons and a pastry jig in the middle.
The better side of 6 lead seals.
The other side of the lead seals.
Three musket balls, a lead bullet and a lead soldier on a horse. I had been hunting a field and digging a lot of trash and the pouch was filling up. Found the base to the horse and did a circle around the hole looking for the rest of the figure and went on about my way. About 20’ later I found the horse and was glad to find it as it is in nice condition and still has its head, looks Prussian, late 1800s. Well I hit the end of the run where a ditch is and emptied the crap out of the pouch, as I was throwing the aluminum junk away in the ditch, I tossed a heavy handful and thought oh crap. Looked for the horse and it was gone. I was using my spare pouch since I forgot my usual pouch and pinpointer at home. I looked for the horse for about 10 minutes, sorting the junk I just tossed into a pile. Did not find it and so I went on detecting but it was kicking my butt thinking I just lost something, LOL, so I went back to the ditch and went over it again. Finally found it under the snow and even under the weeds. I walked away contented and continued the hunt!
3 of 5 coins I found, 1875, 1886 and 1924. The other two coins are junk zincers from 1940ish.
Reverse of the coins.
A nice religious pendant from Pope Pius IX of the Roman Vatican. I was able to ID this one. Pope Pius IX, born in 1792 in Senigallia Italy, his name is Giovanni Maria Mastai-Foretti and served his Papacy in the Vatican from 1846-1878. The pendant shows the Pope’s bust facing right with his right hand in benediction (blessing). We now have a German Bavarian Pope in the Roman Vatican, Joseph Ratzinger, got his great start in life through Hitler youth only by force and was a deserter.
Reverse of the pendant. Has a reference to 1587 in the inner legend. Happy Thanksgiving and HH, Mike
