thats it...no more recruiting new hunters

I would have threaten a cavity search for the pin pointer or have him back track till he found it.

I gotta say I really don't see why one would try to recruit others into this hobby. Just does not make sense to enlist new competition.

.
I will not recruit others either Like you said it make's no sense…..The ones that like to see new ones in detecting are dealers .. for that means $$$$$ in there pocket…… My self i think there is way to many out there with detectors now..

a couple of notes gang.1st...I went back and found my pro pointer sitting next to a fallen log along with the idiots empty water bottle.I already went to where he is staying and left him with his money. He was pretty sorry about his behaviour.I dont care...he is done with me.

2nd.I have my wife and one hunting buddy up here and have never seen another machine swinging so I dont feel much competition pressure.I often want to go hunting but have no one to go with me and some of the more remote areas are just too sketchy to go alone...no cell coverage and some pretty serious critters etc.

I'm over it and would prolly try to help out another who asked in the future but only if;
1)they have their own stuff
2)they have been trying on their own first
3)I think they have something to bring to the table in return
4)they buy the beer

all good and a lesson learned..:occasion14:
cheers

Glad you got your equipment back.
Your kind hearted and tried to help him but he's not looking for help, more like total support, a nanny, and that you are not!
Yes you should have a buddy when going into remote or not the best of places, not always possible but safer.

Like goldnugget I'm very good at losing my own equipment, don't need any help there!

There are good people out there hopefully you meet more of them. TH'ers are a breed of their own, we're wired slightly different.

Bring a dog and a gun. Dogs are a hell of a lot more reliable than humans.

Bigfoot1.... Glad to hear you got your pinpointer back.... That was a good find in itself even though you knew it was there. Wish I was closer to ya. I'd love to go into the deep and MD. That's right up my ally buddy. Where are you at the Northwest?

On the other hand I'll talk about the hobby to those who are interested and even take them out to show them how to use their equipment. But that's the kicker~ they have their own equipment. That fact alone already demonstrates that the people I train to some degree are already competition and that they are showing a commitment to the hobby. Any training, tips or pointers occur in area's that certainly are not my hot spots nor are they area's that one's likely to lose anything at. After that its just evaluating whether I'll go out with them again as well as a good bit of quid pro quo on area's that neither of us have hunted. I consider it relationship building *lol or destroying* but no... never enlistment.

I expect you were disappointed Bigfoot. Maybe a lesson learned but hey you'll find someone fun to hunt with eventually. Luck.

Anytime someone asked me about getting in tbe hobby I just tell them it's not for everyone. I try to steer them away, there's to many guys swinging detectors in my area.

I am in the big bear lake area of ca.you would virtually always be welcome to hunt with me.hell yes my friend.Google big bear and holcomb valley and see if it your cup of tea.

pat

The only problem with the wife detecting with me and she does, is when i find something of value, she starts muttering something about "What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine,""and she grabs it up. if I am lucky, I will get to check it out more closely sometime after we get back home. today after hunting in 98 degree heat, we stopped and got soft serve ice cream... can't think of a better partner and friend to do this with. to be able to do something you love to do with your spouse is a blessing indeed.

I do this to get away from my spouse. Lol

Hell yea buddy.... And when I say this ... I MEAN IT.... don't temp me because that would be one hell of a road trip for me to take sometime. Never been to CA. I got as far as Vegas twice when I was shooting Pro target Archery but that's as far West as I've been. And I flew in then so didn't get to see much. I got to sell this "spare" home I got and build a new woodshop and then I'm "free". In fact a CA. couple are coming out again for a 3rd showing this afternoon!!! Stay tuned... we'd have a blast out there.

Got a pinpointer I could borrow????????????????? (kidding)
