All Treasure Hunting
Today we decided to grid on from where we left off on the first field we did. Although we had gridded the whole of the Roman area, we believed that the continued dark soil & lots of lead meant there should at least be 1 hammered about.
Less than 1 hour into the hunt our hunch paid off. We dug a whole container of scrap lead today, so that helped boost our battery money fund.

3 Roman Coins
Nice 18th C Pewter Button
Good Tudor Button
Medieval Buckle
Late Medieval Cauldron Foot
8th-9th C Saxon Equal Arm Brooch:icon_thumright:
Henry V Half Groat:hello2: (My first example)
Richard II Penny, York Mint8-)
Tiny Lead Token - As we don't find them this small anywhere else, I'm pretty sure these small lead tokens the size of a Farthing were produced by the Abbey in circa Ed I's reign & circulated as small change with the laypeople.

Wow, can't say that I've seen a woad grinder set before, looks like a rare and special find, were they dug together? Lovely half groat too, keep it up man!

In the same field but were probably not a matching pair which would be extremely rare. Amazing to think that some Celtic person used it 2000 years ago in ritual activity or warrior used it before going into battle. They used things like bull/human semen as a binding agent with the Woad. Thought to represent potency & strength. This ritual was almost magical in its use, maybe even done whilst under the influence of hallucinogenic herbs/mushrooms.
