Today we decided to grid on from where we left off on the first field we did. Although we had gridded the whole of the Roman area, we believed that the continued dark soil & lots of lead meant there should at least be 1 hammered about.
Less than 1 hour into the hunt our hunch paid off. We dug a whole container of scrap lead today, so that helped boost our battery money fund.
3 Roman Coins
Nice 18th C Pewter Button
Good Tudor Button
Medieval Buckle
Late Medieval Cauldron Foot
8th-9th C Saxon Equal Arm Brooch
Henry V Half Groat
(My first example)
Richard II Penny, York Mint
Tiny Lead Token - As we don't find them this small anywhere else, I'm pretty sure these small lead tokens the size of a Farthing were produced by the Abbey in circa Ed I's reign & circulated as small change with the laypeople.
