This is the project we are doing with the Archies. Benefits both sides as normal.
We left this in our back pocket because the owner doesn't mind us digging in the Winter Wheat.
Cru'Dad did 3 hours & I did just short of 6 hours.
Another one of our good result days;

1 Good Tombac
Roman Bead
Saxon Pin-Head
9 scrappies
1 Ed I Penny
King John Penny (Double Struck)
My find of the day a 2000 year old Very Rare (9th one known) Celtic Silver Unit of Cunobelin (Horseback rider & double panel).

Nice group of finds! Love the (evil) King John! I hope I can do half as well in March when I will be detecting in Essex.

Good area, Shaun7 used to live there & did pretty good.

Great finds and fantastic coin Cru! Thank you for working with the archies instead of having the attitude that we are on opposite sides for some reason. That seems to be an attitude that lots on both sides have. I've never understood it. If you care about history and believe that these pieces should be identified and preserved in a responsible manner it seems like a natural relationship. I do understand that these folks have put in a lot of time educating themselves and earning degrees to make this their life's work (which I have great respect for) and that we can only assist in some situations a were not trained or qualified to do lots of this stuff. But to identify areas of interest and recover artifacts from areas that they will not be able to get to seems like a great way to help

To me its a no brainer. We have common interests to talk about & we have the skills to find the stuff they are interested in.
Without this partnership we would never have got permission on this really tricky farm. It's run by a committee & has a tenant farmer. Our professionalism (as they saw it) & our partnership ensured we got a written Licence to detect, not something that happens very often at all. We now have 2 Licences under our belt, one with a County Council which is also unheard of.

Hello Crusader,

Congratulations on the fantastic hunt! :occasion14: :notworthy:

Working with the archaeologists can be a very enjoyable experience, I have many times and have never had a bad encounter. The pro is you can go to sites forbidden to us; con we cannot keep our finds.

Regards,

Doc

Great hunt man! I really like the tombac, probably because its one of those rare finds that I would have a chance I digging up over here. :laughing7: Those hammered silvers are just incredible. I really like the + side of those ED pennies and big congrats on the rare Celtic silver.

Isn't it easier for the Archaeologists, Detectorists and Farmers to all work together over there because of the laws you guys have in place? I know very little about them, but from what I do know, it sure seems like its a win-win-win between the three groups of people. Farmers get a cut of a significant find and therefore would be more inclined to give the detectorists permission to their property. Detectorists have to report significant finds to the archaeologists and therefore can acquire the data they are after. I may be way oversimplifying it here, but it just seems like it creates an environment for a win-win-win scenario. I for one would jump at a chance to help out an archaeologist... I'd actually enjoy just pulling up a chair and watching them excavate a section and recover artifacts. ha

This is not the normal Archie dig where by I give them everything I find. This is just us working as a team & us share all our data & them sharing their research.(We keep all, after the split with the owners)

Cleaned the Celtic Coin a little. (See top)

A bit of everything makes it a great day! Sites showing occupation for over 2000 years are proven for good finds. Congrats on a great Celtic Silver unit! Love the pinhead too. :icon_thumright:

Yup should be a no brainer over here as well, talk to some archies here on both sides of the fence... Just keep posting your great finds to keep us going..

CELTIC SILVER!! Fantastic!

Congrats, Cru!

Exciting finds as always Cru.

Awesome, just awesome!

Congrats on the very rare Cunobelin silver !:notworthy:

4 Roman Coins added to top.

Congrats on the Celtic silver Cru they seem rare as hen's teeth compared to the golds. That one would put a smile on anyone's face that is for sure.
