This would make a great movie for all of you that believe there will still be people after "THE END" is here.

The end as we know it means the end of civilization.

It is always good to have extra things on hand. It is easy enough to get started. It can be as easy as cleaning out a closet or setting up some shelves. For us it is an extra closet in the washroom. Everytime I go to the store I purchase a few extra items. Everything has a place on the shelves...when I use something, everything is pulled forward and the new stuff to replace it goes in the back. We live so far away from town that it is necessary to be prepared. What if husband couldn't work for a while, the weather didn't allow us to go to town? What if our car or truck broke down? Sickness? For us it is imprortant to be prepared..

Nicky, Friend, what's the beef with Tee? Darn it, I like ya both! Can't you just drop whatever it is that....well, I don't know what burr got under your saddle. I've never seen Tee attack anybody for any reason. You however, have attacked her on at least 3 threads(by my count). Even here, when you attacked her(off topic of the thread, I might add), she was gracious and thanked you for pointing out mistakes. Now THAT'S CLASS!

oh we got modern fuedalism these days *** when things break down --it will just get back to straight up thug by force "old school" fuedalism rather than the modern weasel tactics todays "politicans" use.

the keys to surviving --- #1 dependible steady supply of clean water ( non electric water filtering ) #2 steady supply of food supplies (including seeds and farming tools (for penning up animals like chickens and hogs) for long term viaiblity-- fishing supplies and hunting supplies as well ) #3 medical supplies (priceless) #4 weapons to protect your supplies with as well as your self and to hunt with #5 items like bleach -- afew drops to help make water "safe" to drink and for other germ killing purposes --vingar also can be used to clean slaughter boards and such. (and is non toxic as well)

Grouping into Like minded communities is also a must in times of civil unrest and infrastructual break down. Recent yugaslovia's (the 90's) situation provide many good lessons by who lived and who died.

Well, I take on many roles, the older I get.

I'm a protector, a provider and a teacher.

The main concern I have is teaching my boys how to do things for themselves. The main hurdle I have is tempering the learning process with constantly reminding myself they are young and they need to be kids first. There is not much I feel I can do right now - I live in Germany until 2012 at least and the idea here is, the system will provide. There are small things I can do but in the end, it'll be up to me to make minor adjustments and get my family through any inconvenience, major or minor.

Mainly right now, I'm working on getting a hold of an alternate form of currency or barter material; i.e. PMs. The primary plan is the US Military will airlift them out of Europe if the need arises. If that plan fails, I'm confident I could work out a slow boat to the east coast for them but either way, I would want them to travel with something tangible in their pockets, besides federal reserve notes.

We're starting a garden, we always have 25-30 gallons of fresh water on hand and we have a good dog; alert yet family friendly. We have a 5000 liter cistern of rain water available that is always nearly full and we keep candles and a lantern in the basement. We don't have broadcast TV, so there is no learning curve there for the kids in so far as getting them away from the magic box. We have a great selection of warm bedding and our living room is a nice sun room that's cool in summer and hella warm in winter.

As far as I'm concerned, right now we're about as prepared as socialist Europe and the US military will allow.

Once I retire, it’s a whole ‘nother story! That’s next on my list for preparations.

Fresh water is vital. It's a bit harder in suburbia than living on a couple of acres with crops etc.

Natural Disaster: Ride it out and wait for FEMA

Manmade Disaster: Like the economic one we are riding out now or a Nuclear, Chemical, Biological one?

4. Do you store food and water? Liquor?

Yes, 21,000 gallons in the pool out back and enough food for a few weeks. Then I have to get out or my backyard pool will look like the watering hole in the Serengeti in the drought season.
I Can’t defend it cause I have that pesky problem that most people ignore: were are you going to dispose of all the bodies? Could be bad after a couple of days in 107 degree heat and I don’t drink Liquor except for medicinal purposes.

5. What about communication? If there is no electricity what are our options?

Good riddance, I never did enjoy junk mail or telemarketers
and without electricity people will finally go to bed at a reasonable hour.

6. And the big one: Protection, short and long term? Do you have a plan etc.?

Is this before or after Blackwater goes door to door and confiscates weapons?

i've always said that i would starve before i would steal. ( and i sure hope that things will never get soo bad ) but...

recently i have also come to the conclusion or have to admit, that i would probably revert to canibalism before i would allow myself or my family to expire, yes it's kinda creepy to think about, and you can deny that you would ever do it, but it has been done many times before, by folks in such dire situations that there is no other option, do you really think that you are any different from them ?, if things got so bad that it was your last resort to eat the dead, i think you would .

Other than that why worry? If "THE END" comes who's gonna be here to worry? Nobody. How many people got ulcers worrying about Y2K? Get what you can out of what ever life you've got either way.

I may sound selfish, but does it really matter if the globe heats up in the next 50 or 100 years? If we went totally green this very second, would we see a climate reversal in our lifetime or our childrens or Grandchildrens? Either way, what ever God has layed out will happen period, whether we worry & fret or not.
