I thought it would be good to just show all it took to find my first gold with a metal detector that I posted about yesturday. First off, I keep EVERYTHING I find, mainly because I don't want to come back and find it again. I hunt just the parks in this area and they are all fairly new, nothing around here is too old because it has all been buried under neighborhoods. Also people new to the hobby wonder why they are not finding what other people are posting. I've done prospecting in AZ and found gold. I've also found it in the Llano River here in Texas, but this was the first I've found in public areas with a metal detector. So here are some pics of this years finds. I garantee the parks are a lot cleaner when I leave.

Wow! You've been busy. I usually just chuck the beer tabs away, but it does make sense to pick em up if you plan on returning to an area to hunt again, like a beach. Nice haul there!

Wouldn't be doing it if I wasn't having a good time. I get to get into my own little world.

KUDOS on not only some great finds, but on getting all of the "junque" out of those areas. I do the same but I just toss it in the garbage cans before I get into my vehicle. If I brought that stuff home I'd get scalped....Well, it's not like I have any hair anyway, but you get my drift!
Good job and happy hunting

I keep the trash to show any inquisitive park rangers or other law if they start to give me a hard time. It has let me stay in places where I normally would have been told to leave.

GREAT post! That should be required reading for any newbie :) I remember somewhere a guy asking if there was a machine that could disc out the junk while still finding the gold :D Seems people think it's a magic wand and not a metal detector... it takes research, some skill and a lot of patience :)

Looks like you did quite well on the good stuff even though it took a long time to get the gold. You have a bunch of rings and goodies there. You do a lot less digging when you hit a place again by taking the junk with you. I've had a few people say thanks when they see the junk I'm taking with me, especially in school yards. It's amazing how many sharp ground up pieces of metal you will find in the wood chips. You did ok compared to me on how long it took you to hit gold. I think it took me about 4 years to find my first gold ring. Congrats on all the good finds.

Well done fellow Texan, I reckon if all my diggins were kept I't would look like that also (minuse the rings and Gold). I bet there are some very old spots around Austin to check out if you get there when there busted up. Way To Grow!!

Piggman!
Wow, that's sure a lot of loot and no so much loot! :)

Metal detecting is easy; all you have to do is get up and get out!

Best to you!

Wow! Now that is a lot of stuff! Keeps things in perspective too! Thanks for sharing!
