Saturday’s trip to the park didn’t give me my 25th silver coin from here [emoji3064] but it still rewarded me for hauling my butt out of bed at 4:30 in the morning [emoji3]

I was hitting the usual clad and foil in the section I’m in so progress was slow (slower than I already am) when I hit onto a patch that was all over the place. After removing some foil from the area I had a repeatable and shallow 44. At the 5cm depth, with that number, combined with being the area the mower turns at, it is can slaw 99% of the time.

I never cut plugs for shallow can slaw so after pinpointing, I inserted my lesche and “popped” the plug. I was able to locate the flimsy wire and pulled some out. And some more... and some more... “Wait? Some dirt just fell out of the wire? This isn’t wire!” [emoji2359]

A complete 925 necklace and the Saturday streak stays alive! The VDI and Italy worries me though [emoji2371]

Happy and safe hunting out there!

Congrats on the Big silver! :occasion14:

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Italy is a well respected world jewelry exporter, the stamp wouldn't concern me about that.
Trusting only a vdi number on a screen means you're possibly leaving valuable targets behind, the only way to know is to dig....us relic hunters leave no repeatable signals behind

nice chain find!

A lotta SILVER...!
Great Find...!

Nice find that is alot of coins worth of silver. Keep that streak goiing my friend

Actually, the detector thinks that's small silver. That's why it read so low. The detector doesn't see it as a whole necklace, just the largest link.

Thanks for the explanation Cuda. I thought it might be something like that.

Thanks IH!

Thought I read somewhere that Italy doesn’t require something for hallmarking that other countries do (maybe on Tnet)? Maybe for gold? I don’t know because I can’t find it now.

I’ve been digging everything (but iron grunts) at this park if it’s anywhere near repeatable and a lot that aren’t (foil) to try and clear obstacles. It’s slow but once I’m done I’ll be content that I didn’t leave much behind.

Oh I’ll try Tommy! Tomorrow, I’ll try to break the pattern developing where I find something good on Saturday and clad only on Sunday.

Don't let the low numbers fool you. I notice both necklaces and chain style bracelets give me weird readings too but they sound clean. I once dug a 20's VDI signal and it was a hollow sterling bracelet with 10k plating. Thing was light as a feather cause all the links were full of air but it had all the hallmarks on it.

That’s what I’m talkin about. Very nice.Congratulations

That's a great find buddy! :occasion14:
As scrap it may only be worth $12, but if you tumbled it and made it wearable again it could be worth at least $40 on Kijiji.

Thanks for looking. Regardless of whether it turns out to be a fake, it’s still a rush in the field to pull this kind of stuff from the dirt. Happy and safe hunting out there!

I wish! I’m more convinced this morning that it is a fake. I put it in a baking soda bath last night to try and brighten it up and that has revealed definite flaking.

I got out this morning before this rain started and tried to make up for it [emoji3]

Very nice. Congrats on the silver.
