We spent the first 3 hours on the mega-grid outside of the "Hunted Out" Roman Site. With this strategy we were hoping for the odd hammered but not today, & with only 1 Roman coin, it was time to change it up. So after lunch we did 3.5 hours over the "Hunted Out" Site. Cru'dad was having a poor day with only 1 scrappy & several buttons to his name, when he pulled out his 2nd Roman Silver in 2 outings! This Site is not really known for it's silvers, so it was even more surprising.

9 Roman Bronze Coins
17th C Button
Livery Button
Tudor Button
1719 Farthing
Heavily clipped Roman Silver Siliqua, late 4th C.
My best find, a 17th C Token I need - 1668 Halfpenny Token, John Bray of the Swan Pub in Biggleswade. The pub is no longer standing but was is pretty interesting is that Samuel Pepys is reputed to of visited the pub in 1661, 7 years before this Token was made;

Cool token Cru!

Wow again ! Really I don’t know what to say of your finds
Each one is historical
I love looking at your coins, items
The items especially , broaches rings pendants and such
Personal items of that age are so cool
Again great hunt. Hh gl

That pub token is the bees knees Cru! What a great looking coin

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Sweeet finds Thanks for sharing CRU amazing

Cru, congratulations on another great hunt by you and Cru’dad. I always look forward to your posts as I know I will see what is in many cases a first look at a coin or relic which I have never seen before. A question if I may, how do you clean your old coppers? I have found a fair number of them in the past that have layers of crud with details below that elude the scrapping of my toothpicks. So far, my best method has been the long soak in distilled water. I can make out some details when the coin is wet and then are lost as the coin drys. Would appreciate any insight that you can provide. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

If by old coppers you mean 18th - 19th C, I use normal soapy water because I'm not bothered about ruining the patina, as they are normally near blanks anyway. If your trying to be more careful you should use the hot peroxide bath method.

Did you celebrate at a local pub?
I would :)

Man your collection has to be epic. Do you display your finds or just keep them put away?

Great day! Love that Roman silver and old pub token

As long as you have signals to dig and some goodies turn up it's a good day!

Both. Plus do the odd mobile display at history talks or like an event coming up soon, an Archie open Day. An event done by the Archies open to the public on one of our Saxon Sites. (now sold to a housing developer)
I used to display stuff in my local Museum as well but they have rotated those out at the moment & I'm due to look at the new stuff & see what they need.
