As a detectorist I love checking old maps. I found a map from 1860 of the area I live. It showed a cemetery in a location that I never knew a cemetery existed. I hunted it down. It’s on the side of a sagebrush covered hill. No fences or markers to even show it’s there. To my surprise I found this headstone. This was the last man killed at the second battle of Pyramid Lake. The Pyramid Lake Paiute war brought the construction of Forts and Union Cavalry into the area.
