"THE LAST FOOTSTEPS OF CONSTABLE THOMAS RYAN" 1886

January 6 1886 a local gold trooper went too the local chiness mining camp and was never seen again. On the morning of the 6th, Constable Thomas Ryan went to the Sydenham Gardens Hotel [taven] to take in the weekly pigeon shoot. This event was held by the Sandhurst gun club. This event was held at this location every Wednesday from 1863-1925.just got to wonder how you could shoot staight while drink large amounts of beer. :P :P :P.Later that day Constable Thomas Ryan was never seen again.

Yesterday i went to the site where the hotel once stood and spent about 7 hours working the rear of the site. The first pic is of the hotel taken about 1890.

Found a lot of stuff and only have had time to clean some of the relic and coins.

Token Dutch-east india company 1835
Medal 1916 Anzac Comm.-school issue
Button Victoria Trooper circa 1880's
Buckle plate age unknown
Cermic toothpaste lid {pain] 1890's
2 English shilling 1885
2 early shootgun shells age ??
Part of unknown hat badge [pressed copper]
half a sandhurst token 1855
penny Straits Isands colony issue 1887

There about 20 pics of finds in the ground ,some cleaned and a pic cica 1890

You can have 1788 English pennys worth nothing I take a 1813 silver colonial "holy dollar or dump. These are restrikes made from spanish silver or a 1930 Australia penny. i don,t think you could find a VERY Rare coins like these KirK as i might.

tinpan By the way American whalers had coastal camps here since before 1820 might seee if i can find a large coppa :-* :-* :-*

Tinpan ,I love your history lessions! I think the love for history is what has driven most of us in the passion of detecting. The way you always post the history of the area with your finds just makes me want to visit Australia even that much more! I was and am a Steve Irwin fan so Queensland is on my vacation wishlist for shore but I would love to travel the whole country exploring the history.Fantastic post as always. :)

What a great site.. productive and drenched in history. Excellent hunt.

The 1885 1 Shilling on the left looks minty-fresh!

re: The British East India token, wasn't the Anna an older Indian denomination? I'm at work on a quick break & can't look things up.
