The origin of this button i.d

Hi all i found this button today and the button is one piece and about the size of a modern U.S army, but bit flatter.2 pics found state and partly cleaned to show detail.Any ideas on origan.

Thanks for the link Jim, what makes it so hard to i.d buttons in my area of Australia is fact there was gold-miners from 26 different countries.The main groups where chinese ,american,cornish, welsh, germans, french and others

How did you clean it? I found a civ button, and just used soap and water, but it still looks like poop.
