Hello from Alabama...my name is Robert. After researching an unsolved authorship, clues were dropped in path that brought me to another book. The image comes from a 1905 book with some verse of which im hoping will eventually find this box. Took me 3 years to get a copy of book in hand. Here is the kicker, the picture is a photograph hinged to that front page.

Likely just some old remnants of an western mining operation. In 1905, crates would have been strewn everywhere. Likely a storage crate of some sort once containing supplies such as bits, food stores, blasting caps etc. Makes for great leisure research, but i wouldn't invest any real money in it.
