I had a bit of an issue at one of the mines in the San Juan mountains arise last Thursday, so I headed over that way to be on site this morning. It was an absolutely beautiful day to once again be up in the Rockies. On the way home I took the slow road over cottonwood pass and it was jacket weather up there. Heading back down I see many of the front rangers have had enough of the stay home business and headed to the hills for the weekend. I guess I can't blame em. Hardly anyone was going the way I was headed.

When I see pics like that it makes me wonder why I live on the prairie?:BangHead: Gary

I live on the flat lands Gary and to me it's home sweet home.

Thats Home sweet Home for sure gorgeous pics

Well they never really closed for me, but boy howdy I saw what you meant this weekend down in Chaffee County.

Was it - First In Boating Arkansas - weekend down in Salida? I drove through town last Thursday and they had main street barricaded off. There was a lot of westbound traffic on cottonwood, but hardly anyone going east over the pass. It also looked like all the cottonwood camp spots were filling up fast.

I didn't make it over to Salida and surprisingly didn't see a lot of river rafting traffic. I only saw two SUP'ers in BV. Cottonwood filled up real quick along with dispersed camping farther west. A lot of that traffic over the Pass seemed to be heading over to Taylor Res., which I didn't make it over too. That road is nice now though. Independence Pass is open now.

Won't be long and fall will be again in the high county and on weekdays things will be a lot more quiet. One neat thing to do is go up top of cottonwood at night on moonless fall nights. It's rather spectacular seeing all the stars from up there.

Great pictures Tamrock. I was going to take the family over Weston pass but it was closed when we got there. It will open in a few more weeks. I went over Trout Creek and it was a zoo. I was on a little back road and some lady asked me for help with her trailer. I looked at it and told her to take it off and go get a nut for the bolt that goes through the hitch. I can't believe it was still together!

It's getting kinda dangerous on Fridays in the mountains. I'm being passed by drivers on blind curves and double yellow lines all the time. I drive the limit, but that's not good enough for some of those gotta get there before all the others motorists there are now on the mountain highways.

It is worse every year. It's dangerous on our roads with the casinos. Someone went off shelf road where I have been spending some time exploring. You do not want to drive off that road. They are not with us now.

Hey TR, survey says...getting dangerous on Thursdays now in the mountains. I think it's just the effect of people believing they were imprisoned and couldn't legally go anywhere maybe. I know this is the first time in 16 years I went to Penitente Canyon and it was full on a Wednesday. And didn't appear to be all rock climbers or mountain bikers.

My sister live in Glade Park, Colorado.. I would love to get back that way this summer..Such beautiful country!

Yeah, there sure a big need to get out of the city for many down here. Wasn't at all crowded that Thursday I was up there, but on Friday there was a whole bunch of vehicles bumper to bumper heading westbound on 70.
