Ya some of the most intriguing stories for me is the ones of people ya rarely hear about. In fact they never if hardly show up in mainstream media and if they do it is always briefly as they fade into the landscape like a thief in the night.

You might see a pattern with treasure legends that many want to solve the super star legends of unbelievable riches and be the proverbial the one who solves the mystery. For me I like the hardly known legends as they have not been worked to death by mainstream authors that spent years adding the Myths surrounding certain legends, thus creating whole legions of people wallowing in sea of truths and untruths.

The Following story for what is known of it..Is intriguing and will take you back to a high and remote part of Peru.



But first have any of ya heard of a man called John Fenn?

I did find quite a bit about a chemist of the same name which turned out to be a rather interesting read itself. Who would have thunk it?

Patience my friend Being a dinosaur It takes me a long time to type. While sitting behind a computer as I am a two finger typists. And besides when the day has crystal blue skies and birds are singing. Once must a unleashed himself these computer and live the day my friends.

The Following John Fenn was a engineer who worked for a time in South America. On the 26th of December 1926 the following newspaper story appeared in the The Grenfell record and Lachlan District Advertiser.



What could be more fascinating than to handle lumps of gold brought from the secret mines of the Incas, in South America? This was the experience of three men who sat in the office of Mr. John Fenn in London. Mr. Fenn has just returned from a two year expedition in Peru, and brought back all sorts of treasure. He intends to organize another expedition to further prosecute his search. In the land where the gold was abandoned lies on the other side of the Andes, and one of the obstacles to surmount is Mount Ausungate (17,000 . feet high). But the chief obstacle is that the natives of that part of Peru resent any interference with the ruins of the Incas temples or mines.



Like with any newspaper they are only accurate as the quality of the journalist and person telling the information?



Was there any truth to this rather obscure story?

Thus my friend became the start of a much deeper search into what facts we can establish?

John Fenn the pirate was a member of Bartholomew Roberts crew. When Black Bart sailed for Africa Fenn and another chap named Thomas Anstis took off in the dark in one of Bart's ships. Their career in the Caribbean was short lived.

Its amazing how different places in world remind me of other places also. It would be a safe bet others have come across that too in their travels.

Now with all legends we have to look at the facts we have from this obscure newspaper story?

We have a name John Fenn?

We have date December 2 1926?

We have an approximate region where this alleged lost Inca mines are, near Mount Ausungate?

The first thing is to confirm this John Fenn?



Amazing enough we get another lead his sibling. This creates an opportunity to track down descendants?

While tracking down descendants can be positive or negative.

Some with will be totally stunned and no Idea of their ancestors past?

Others will be paranoid of your intentions.

And others will only be too happy that some one outside of family has shown interest in their family history.

To get more information on theses legends we have to go where the facts takes us.

John fen was the key...

We have is records of who he was and family in 1911 and looking in archival shipping record we could confirm his presence in South America?

Sure enough.



The British merchant shipping act of 1915 and 1919 requires all passengers arriving to the united Kingdom be recorded of the ship they traveled from the port of departure. occupation age and nationality. All this builds up a better picture for us on this mysterious and elusive John Fenn.

And another thing which many of us old gents should take heart. When he was 48 in 1911 he was living a rather sedate family lifestyle a mere 14 years later aged 62 he is returning from South America as John fenn Explorer

So ya see do not leave age write ya off from chasing your dreams.

Where many would be contented with their lives others were stepping out of proverbial box....

Oro thanks for thumbs up. Its beautiful day today the sky is blue and it can't get much better. I am stuck at home today as I am waiting for A new washing machine. It is a little hard as it has to brought over by vehicular ferry then driven to my part of the island and transferred to a FWD as I have no road to my property other than the beach. So to day I have been interneting to kill time it in envy of the day outside. Such is downside of island life my friends.

I can understand totally how easy it is to become sedentary as i myself feel my bones these days and enjoy to the fullest any creature comforts. For me and the Trio in General as they would say the same that we research many treasure legends but there is only a few we would every commit ourselves to when we have ticked all the proverbial boxes.

Best way to sum it up treasure hunting it is a bit like Surfing?

Some will have endless please fluttering around in the surf close to shore and in control. There are others get quite good and will always love the waves and every chance they get their out there having a go. Still others go professional and do well and have an amazing lifestyle and life.

And finally there are the others.. who has been there and done that. They only come out to play to surf the big waves when all the conditions are right. These guys are mad as meat axes and go where others fear to tread.

This treasure story like many others require futher research to take to the next level. Some will never progress further enough to warrant the expense of an expedition...

Such is the way of treasure legends.

Hello Lemon my fine Peruvian friend. But the winds of change is everywhere my friend... I worked in all over Peru many years ago. And I was I must, admit just another gringo looking to exploit as such is the nature of beast. Yet I came back a different person with a much deeper understanding and respect for your wonderful culture there. Even still there is places there that utterly amaze me.

The mighty queros tribols will always guard their secrets well...but those secrets are gradually and sadly diminishing... Take the old Inca gold mining region around Cajamarca and the development of Yanachocha mine. Of course one can say it is a double edged sword, but the winds of change are ever shifting and these things will always come to pass.

I see Peru developing in next few decade as much more modern a vibrant state. Getting the balance and maintaining the vibrant historical culture of Peru and reaping the benefits of a modern country is no easy task. The challenges are great but the prospects are definitely there.

Are they still going ahead with the 12 billion dollar San Lorenzo and super port of handling goods from China to south America? Peru in next 5-10 years will absolutely boom.

And it is not just Peru which will be booming, much of SA will be joining this boom…….

I agree 100% the next big markets are south America. I only hope they introduce super annuation like Chile did for its workers. The industry funds can be reinvestment into nation building projects. I tell you America is going down the road like the British empire did. Ya go bankrupt trying to be the worlds moral policeman. Having a vast armed forces do not make you any better off financially in fact it sends you broke just like it did the British empire and all the other empires before that. So its time America do that magic thing, that American was world once renowned for and was looked up to....that sadly they have forgotten over the last decade or so .....Buisness baby business! No point looking back lamenting the past as the winds of change is here. Ya have to re invent yourselves or go the way of the dinosaur.

China is all over the world my friend I get emails from Chinese companies every day begging to business with my company. Some thing we should be doing in the west creating young business men and women hungry to go out into the world and do business. The Chinese of today are smart they do not Have to enolve themselves with wars they can takes us over by just doing business. you know there are more Harley davidsons being sold to China right now than any other country.

They have 1 million millionaires and growing. I have some friends in Australia that have big long term plans. Our steel industry is slowly dying. One last steelworks 100ks south of A Sydney will be gone in couple of years. They have already have plans to secure and rehabilitate the site. They intend to create an Australian franchised Disneyland theme park and three massive casinos connected directly to a mega sized cruise ship terminal on the site as it is right next to the port with deep water access. Sydney water front land is just too expensive to develop for the land need for such a project. Mega cruise ships from China with cashed up middle class chinese will re invigerate the economy of region generation 26000 jobs not counting associated jobs. Construction, hospitality, transport job teaching of lanuage skills etc all caterers for the tourism industry. Cruise ship customers are directly linked to the theme parks and casinos. zoo and water park complex.

It all depends of course if our governments change from the politics of defeatism as they have been practicing as of late.

Wise old Crow…….truly China, by design, is the new leader and the USSA, dying, breathing it's last……
I take no joy in saying this…..yet I cannot deny the truth……..as for the comparison with the former British empire, it seems pretty sure the former America will not fare so well………
And yes opportunity abounds, one only need look in the right place, like SA.
Everywhere you go in latino America it seems they are building roads, houses, buildings, factories, stores…….countless trucks moving along the roads for distant markets……the standard of living seemingly increasing every year…….

El Crow, I love my country of birth, but I do not share your optimism with hope for it…………the fundamental problem with the former America is a spiritual problem and there is no political solution to a spiritual problem…………seems that history does repeat itself and what we see now happening does not have a pretty ending, and history shows us but one ending……

Yet it is also true that regardless of the outcome for an individual country, it is possible for individuals to do well………but first they must be aware of the situation and not be blinded by the lies and propaganda being fed to them…….today, few truly understand the enormity of the lie……..
