Thick Brass What's It from 1830's site

Two of my buddies found these pieces (obviously to the same relic) at an 1830s homesite, any ideas? Any help would be appreciated

Agree. It's part of the inner workings of a mortise lock.

I looked for a good pic. They made eleventyseven thousand versions of these old locks over the better part of a couple of centuries. Odds of finding a pic of one like yours are not good. Had I found a pic I would have posted it, then headed out to the local 7 - 11 to buy lottery tickets.

Even without a pic, I still think you can call it a mortise lock part with a high degree of surety.
