Thin brass with people on it.

agreed looks similar to buckles I have found

i have seen something like this embedded in the stone over
a mantle or hearth before.

Thanks, We had a pretty good day I'm already ready to go back out there. Man we sure dug up alot of iron out there! Sure wish that US belt plate was all there. Good luck hunting down there.

Cheyenne, I agree, it could maybe be a bcukle but it looks more like a lid, maybe the sliding lid to a tin. (we can't see the longer side pieces how they're both bent to be sure that it isn't a hinged lid?)
