howdy folks! i am tryin to make up my mind between a Tejon or a Vaquero. I live in Florida so i understand that there is not alot of mineralization here. i hunt mainly for relics and coins on old sites...i don't beach hunt at all for modern stuff. from what i've been reading, the Tejon is very sensitive and the buttons move too easily..and that it eats batteries. i've read that the Vaquero is an excellent machine, even though it's not as deep as the Tejon....and it only takes a nine volt.

i don't want to be constantly fidgeting with the machine... what are your experiences with these machines? any advice?
thanks and happy hunting!

I'd say get a Tejon :tard:  ::)

We are not beginners, we detect weekly at least since getting our ShadowX2's when they first came out. We've gone three times per week and we've swung the coil all day at times.
Pros Tejon: Power, more AMPS, more control over machine and adaptation to conditions. Dual discrimination, like having two coincheck buttons set at different settings. I think like one at copper/zinc and one at pulltab/nickel>? Or any other settings you want to set them at. And the audio tone can be adjusted/changed for both of them. You don't have to use them both and can stay in the one mode. An extra inch or so of depth can make a big difference in disturbed soil or old soil. I'm concerned I read that the Vaquero can have some difficulty pinpointing deeper coins/targets as I like a good pinpointer like the shadow has. My Whites rachets down in coil size when pinpointing... Not sure I like the idea of having a toggle instead of button but that's just whining. Would need to be a rugged toggle to also function as the pinpointer.... not heard anyone complain about it, though. Yes, rubber o-rings can make the knobs tighter, no problem there at all. Many times I've looked down at my shadow and seen that I'd turned the sensitivity knob way down while depressing the pinpoint button over and over a hundred times an hour, LOL Per Tesoro and people who have them, 20-30 hours of detecting time per battery charge Tejon vs 10-20 for Vaquero. I don't think it eats batteries.

The Vaquero is little more turn on and go and still powerful but not as much as Tejon. All reviews for both machines are positive. There's reasons the Tejon costs more. Have to manually ground balance both machines... More user controls Tejon. The Vaquero weighs a little less (1/2#?) and that always helps as piddly-ghey as it sounds.

Somebody help us, hahaha :tard: :icon_study: :icon_scratch:

Here's a hunting buddy of mine who is pinpointing, smoking a cigarette while holding his BullsEye pinpointer and simultaneously flipping up his Lesche digging tool with his feet. Great technique! ;D :D

i think i had a good target, so i had to take a drag from the smoke to chill my nerves ;D

THAT'S talent... :D ;D

Been using a V for about 3 months now, I like it for the depth, quick retune and lightness. I use duracell batts and get about 8-10 hrs out of them. My machine starts to get a little unstable if I try to get any more time from them. Never used a tejon but from the research I did before I bought, I think the Vs depth is really close to the tejon's, maybe even splitting hairs comparing the two. Most people will tell you if theres a lot of mineralization then avoid the Tejon as it tends to be unstable. As for the dual disc, I just tumb the disc on the V to see where the target drops out. Very happy with the V, I use it for coins, relics, wet sand (even use it at the beach with the coil submerged) or dry sand it works quite well.

thank you for responding....i'm leanin towards the tejon....i was all for the vaquero at first, but i have been on the treasuredepot reading larry cissnas responses and from that i am leanin tejon..it takes 8 double a's though hmmm...i like the single 9 volt..but 8 to 10 hours? that doesnt seem like alot

Arch....the AA battery packs actually balance the machine out really nice. I had thought about both the V and T but got the T and I am very happy with it. It's really easy to set up and you can run it very quiet or hot...whichever is comfortable.

It ground balances super easy mostly anywhere, although you can't take it near wet, salt sand but it's not a detector for that anyway. Tell you what though...it hunts the dry sand very, very well and can find small gold DEEP.

I do not think you will be dissapointed getting either the T or V, but I think the T has some features that you end up really enjoying once you use them.

thanks therover, i ordered the T...and I CAN'T WAIT! all my sites will be new now!
