im thinking about Mding all the shores of the great lakes
for how ever many summers. need some ideas on the
cheapest sleep arrangements, thought about renting an
RV and or tent camp but....
1. finding a close RV park might be a prob
2. same with tent camp
3. seems any hotel/motel is big$$$ if near water
4. just dont want to spend lots of time getting to
the shore from where i stay, and still not spend an arm and leg ya know
thought about this.... https://www.airbnb.com/
has anyone ever used it

The great thing about an RV is you can sleep anywhere!

Are you talking about being "on the road" all summer? Or just on the weekends? Knowing would make a big difference in suggestions.

If for an extended time period I would use a Boat that I could sleep and eat on. Only extra expense is fuel for the boat/pontoon. This way you can access any part of the lake.:icon_thumleft:

yes thinking of staying on the road, whole summer, the first yr
going to the farthest shore lines, IE Canada, thats if Mding is ok
there, if not ill stick with usa.
not sure about this, will have to check out more, guess there are
private beaches on the lakes, i didnt think anyone could own the
beach/shore on the G-lakes
been looking at the renting of rv, wow $$ and work every few days
not sure about the boat idea, i use to day sail when i lived in Tampa
and had a small troller for the creeks and swamp for fishing, rigged
the trailer to hold and tow which ever boat i was using
someone tried to steal my day sail one time while it was docked in
yard, neighbor caught em

Depending on if you want "necessity" or comfort, buy a van, customize the inside to fit your needs.

If you want more room, buy an enclosed trailer, leave the outside stock, and again go as extreme or basic inside as you like.

Spend the night in either at the local SprawlMart along side the other camper or tractor/trailers that will be parked there. Truck stops and campgrounds have showers.

?I Would Totally Live In This 80 Sq-Ft Custom Cargo Trailer

Go for it and keepus informed.

I agree with a post above on the pontoon boat. Add a tent.

You can go on shore where able, and when you can't, sleep on the boat.

Pontoon boat on the great lakes.:laughing7: Calm days you'll be alright, most days by 2pm you have a pretty good chop on the water. Not that friendly on the lakes for pontoon vessels, seen houseboats loose their things out on the water when the winds came up, one has to have respect of a large body of water no matter where they lay. HOLMES has 10063 miles of shoreline so if you do 1 mile a day we'll see you in 27.5 yrs. Have fun, you're going to have one heck of a collection of finds.

Below Canada you may consider state parks as jumping off points. When I tented prices were alright.
Other camping exists too.
Reservations are required for peak seasons but many offer tent sites , though the in thing is motor homes today and rustic camping though scattered still exists in places.. That means noise to tent campers in general areas.
It gets COLD along the great lakes...better to have more than you need than not enough.
The great lakes pounds hulls. No big swells just chop or waves..from small to big and too close together.
Even in good weather an ocean designed small craft will get hammered.
A pontoon a few days out of the year may survive.
A friend found a pirate aboard his beached for the night craft that got away from him , when he woke up the guy fled..
Some nerve!

On the nys portion most state parks you have to get a permit to detect and its restricted to the beach area

A sports mobile would be perfect. But with a starting price of $70,000 your going to have to find a lot of treasure.

Another question, and I'm quite serious, is; How is your health? I know I'd be getting sore after a couple of weeks of serious swinging let alone a whole year. One hell of an adventure though, hope you make it happen :)

health is ok, was thinking swinging 3-4 hrs ,maybe every other day
im 60+, have a bad back, had an op, back in 86, need therapy sometimes
i use a tens, and stretches ect.
not all yr, its the great lakes this would be a summer venture
been looking at the conversion bus/vans, dang big$$ and high miles
even for a 5yr old model
problem would be 1st major breakdown 1000$ +, id be out for the rest
of the hunt time, as i wouldnt have much left on the cc emergency fund

hunt time, is rest of that season

Hammock camping is getting big Still camping but not on the ground. some folks say more comfortable than a bed. Arrowhead .com has starter kits.

Actually this is not entirely true...
Not without "hassles" anyway...
At least in Florida.

Wal-mart parking lots... SOME of them allow overnight parking... but no power / water /septic etc.

Otherwise you will be paying minimum of 40 a night... and that's the very low end.
Week rental adds up quick.

If planning on "just parking in a parking lot"... plan on being woke up in the middle of the night by a LEO and being told you cannot camp there and you have to leave...
WHICH really sucks at 2 am.
Tis almost guaranteed anywhere where "hotels" are.

IF you are slick you can pull it off but tis an extreme hassle etc.
Better to pay for the camp ground.
