Re: Thinking of buying new detector, Minelab vs. Whites Vision. Let's here it......
I too noticed on one of the forums that there is an issue with the volumn. You can only turn it down so much and that's not enough for some people. I noticed that my first time out with how loud it is. But I have headphones with seperate volumn controls. I didn't get the wireless headphones. I don't know if they have seperate controls or not.
White's is changing this for free for anyone that sends their machine back.

But again...why would I need to with my headphones?
And as I said in another post, I don't particularly like how reflective the screen is. It's not bad on a sunny day but more during cloudy days when you are under trees. For some reason, it's almost like a mirror for the sky and makes seeing the screen difficult without repositioning yourself. But that's all it takes, repositioning.....I still go by the tones first anyhow. My eyes aren't glued to the screen as I search.
But the plus is you can change the size of the display, magnify it for easier reading...especially nice for older folks like myself that hate constantly putting my glasses on to read a tiny screen.
I'm still learning mine after a dozen or so times out. I've found clad at 7 inches, a nice, old, silver victorian cross in a field of can slaw and a copper pencil sharpener about 8" down.
Found my first nickle yesterday about 3"...but I also dug pulltabs and rusty bottle caps. But again, I was experimenting with some advanced settings, pushing my gain to the limits, running the machine "hot". I wasn't paying much attention to the analyze screen.
I've mostly gone to places that I know have been hit hard by myself and others....just to see if I can squeeze more out of it. I might not be pulling tons of silver from these sites, or any for that matter, but I am finding things and coins that were missed.
There is a whole host of reasons for these being missed. 3 quarters in a hole 7" deep..one heck of a loud signal...maybe passed up for iron? Someone thought it was a bottle cap maybe? I hit analyze, saw the low frequency on top and dug. Or maybe that particular spot was missed by someone's coil? Who knows?
A fellow I went detecting with has an E-trak. He blew me away with his finds...but it was only my 2nd or 3rd time out. I'm still working on learning pinpointing with the open coil, DD design. He had a pinpointer, I didn't....(I do now

) I think they're a must have if you've never used an open coil in clumpy grass. I think I prefer the closed loop design.
So there's my honest take so far on the Vision.....I like it alot, I'm making deep finds and able to discriminate in a variety of ways to minimize digging trash.
For a while, I'll continue to push the machine, play with settings in the same places I've hit before and dig trash. This is the only way I'll truely discover what this thing is capable of.
And the one other thing I feel needs mentioned. You WILL still dig some trash. I dug a chunk of something 10" deep. I know the depth because that's the length of my digger. It was one of those iffy signals. But any machine is going to give you those, especially at that depth. I dug a bic lighter yesterday too...one of those oddities you just can't anticipate, whatever the readings.
