This field ain't no big penny field but it's the best field ever!!!! SEEE!!!

Ok folks the fellow that posted to Gregd573's post and called us frostbite hunters.....well that wasn't too far from the truth. It got cold y'all!!!! Ok, Schlooppy and I may've forced Greg to do some hunting that he'll never do again but you know what??? If you look at his post and read what he typed you'd never know that he enjoyed every thing he dug... LOL!!!
No, like Greg said, it was a great hunt. The night hunt was the best. Just three crazy lunatics in 20 degree cold, 25-30 mile an hour wind gusts, and sleet/snow to be all!!!! Oh and this was from 1030pm to 3am! Yep, I talked them into it. Got to the hotel and they'd even bought headlamps. Now who's the die hard hunters??? As Greg said it was a wonderful night hunt. We stepped out of the truck, warmed the machines up and started hitten the sod. It wasn't but 5 minutes into the hunt when Greg said I think I found something. Yep Greg you did.. A dadgum Barber dime. Rub it in won't ya! Ten minutes later he walks up too me like a ghost in the wind and says I think I found the mother-load. Yep Greg you did. A dadgum gold ring. The second gold to come out of the field. John and I both tell Greg it's time for him to head for the truck!!!! Anyhow this is where my night got better. My first dig was a 1907 "V" nickle and the next, after a couple trash digs, a good signal, nice clod and stuck to the bottom of the clod.....whoooaa! Is she sitting and holding a shield? Yep, a seated dime! Again a second to come out of the field! The night ended up with a few other nice digs but we were all frozen solid and ready for some sleep.
The next day started out nicely with coffee of course. We get to the site and start pounding ground again. Still it's sleeting/snowing on us the wind is down to about 20-24 miles and hour and it's cold as heck.. Oh well, make the best of it right??? John and Greg made many a trip to the truck for heat. I got to the hunt site with a full tank of gas but John and Greg settled that to about three quarters. Ha, ha! It was worth the finds for the day though. Sunday was great with some sun and 10-15 mile an hour winds. Not too bad I'd say seeing what we'd went through the two days prior! All in all a great hunt. John has yet to post but had some nice finds. Greg, well you've all seen his finds. Congrats old friend! Especially on your many firsts. That gold ring was a heart stopper!!!!
My finds were as varied as usual. This field never ceases to amaze me. We always have the same conversation after a hunt there.....you'll never predict a find here!!!!! The finds are just varied beyond belief! I've posted most of my finds. I left a few of the underimportant (just made that word up, must be the Tennessee upbringing) finds out as I had to shove the good ones together!!! LOL! Ofcourse my favorite is the seated dime but a close second is the John Deere pin. I've found some really cool items here relating to big companies. I also found some cool sterling pieces as you can see from my pics. I like finding those precious metals whether coins or not. Sterling items is another common find in this field. Tokens are a regular find there also. I found a couple cool ones but they weren't in great shape. The Loose Brothers one is pretty nice though. And I found a ring to Greg, with a stone. Ok, mines not gold but it's old!!!! Also found often there are Indians. I ended up with three this time the oldest being 1888. We all got some of those. Oh, and my least favorite find... A 1910 wheatie! Why you say, cause it's the newest coin to come out of this field. John used to have the honor with a 1909 wheatie! I don't take kindly to knowing that I'll probably never be outdone!!!!
Sorry to take up so many lines but a great story is always full of great talk!!! I have great times with my hunting buddies as you can tell and there's always fun stories to tell. Just don't believe Greg when he mentions the word BEER!

HH all and enjoy the pics,

Scott,

You got yourself some mighty fine finds. I had done some research several years back on John Deere...they made farming tools before the tractor came about, so that pin is old. Love that old ring too, what I would like to know what is the thing with the horse shoe in the pic next to the religious medal?

You three guys always have a good time no matter where y'all hunt. ;D

 RR

Re: This field ain't no big penny field but it's the best field ever!!!! SEEE!!!

Hey Scott,
I new you could put the hunt into words a whole lot better than me. (a little windy I think)......"Good Job".....I mean. Thanks for the in field tips and the use of your truck heater to thaw out occasionally...lol. You did a great job straighting out some of those finds. I would have thought that they would have ended up in pieces. Looking forward to the next time (when the weather warms up)....lol. I will stay on track with the property for next spring. Always good to hunt with you and John......keep in touch.

Take care,
Greg

Looks like I m not the only one having some luck in the fields. I would love to find something seated. All I seem to be able to find are Large Cents :P

Re: This field ain't no big penny field but it's the best field ever!!!! SEEE!!!

Thanks for the looks folks. Been a while since I'd posted. I am always happy to post after a hunt at this field for sure.

**Greg, again great hunt and I truly enjoyed it. Can't wait to bundle up in a jacket and do it agian!!! You game?

**WD, you'll never get Greg to tell the story of the $2 bill..

**RiverRat, the item in question is a horseshoe with a flower in the middle. Some type of pin I believe.

**plehbah, we've found some really awesome tokens in this field some in terrific shape. Amazingly most end up being Saloon tokens. I've researched several. One day I'll post them all!!!

**stoney56, I'll get back with you on that token but as you can see we may not be able to get anything else from it. I have several OK tokens from that field as John does.

**tsgman, nice meeting you to. Great spur by the way!!!!

Once agian, thanks all. To those hardcore inclimate weather hunters, the brotherhood is abound!!!!

hh all,

Re: This field ain't no big penny field but it's the best field ever!!!! SEEE!!!

Great finds! Haven't seen you post a hunt in a long time. You still haven't lost your touch those finds are super!

Re: This field ain't no big penny field but it's the best field ever!!!! SEEE!!!

You can't argue with those great finds. It sounds like your field was the location for some old fair grounds judging by the variety of finds your making. Your seated dime is very nice, I pulled up the very same year in my yard this past summer, it was a huge suprise. As for detecting in the cold and snow, at least you know you'll never get bothered. No mosquitoes to drive you nuts either!. Well done.

Re: This field ain't no big penny field but it's the best field ever!!!! SEEE!!!

I envy you guys. The weather didn't use to bother me at all but now I can't take too much cold or too much heat. I think the cold is worse because my old bones tend to ache and get stiff. I put on so much insulated clothing I can hardly walk and I'm still cold! But anyway, very good hunt and some nice finds. Loved reading about it. Monty
