I can see thread on the round part. A tapered square shaft like on the other end usually indicates it was forced into a round hole in wood for a snug fit. So think of applications where it would be bolted into something (the threaded end) and something wooden placed on the square end. Wagon maybe? Or part of a building?

The square end makes me think it's a hardie tool from an anvil?
That’s actually what I thought too, but I couldn’t see why the other end would be threaded.
