Hello everyone. I got out last saturday for a few hours. Wife was working and the kids were at a sleep over. Don't remember the last time I got out on a weekend but its been a while. Went to a new median in a nicer part of town thinking I'd hit it big with some silver. I was wrong, every coin was 1970 or newer except 1 wheat with no date. The wheat was a poor jumpy signal. Seems like someone beat me to this median. But they left me something cool. A 1900 United States Census workers badge. It was a 13-15 on the Nox. Probably why it was skipped over previously. Not pictured is the pin back which was still in the hole.

I found the 63 Rosie at a different median that day. The ground is too dry making digging deep very difficult. I cant wait for the rain to come. I may return to the first median another time but I'm not expecting much. Thanks for looking and happy hunting everyone!

What an awesome find. Congratulations! That badge looks very official unlike the lanyard laminated inkjet printer badges of today the Census workers have around their necks.

Great find . I would take that any day over anything newer than a Capped bust . Love it

Thanks waterscoop. I was expecting a kids play badge as I pulled it out. Was definatly a surprise. The houses on the street are mostly 20s and 30s but its possibe there are a few older ones on the block. Maybe someone who worked the census gave it to thier kids to use to play cops and robbers?

Thanks 46wheat. I can't wait to pull anything older than a merc but this helps. Too bad it wasnt the sterling silver variant of this badge. Happy to have it none the less.

Fantastic find!
Not trying to detract from yours, but I dug the exact same year census badge, minus the pin, out in Denver.
It's identical to yours, except it has a red stain on the front, where I think the chrome is wearing through.
Kudos!

No worries curbdigger. I had never known of these till I found it. Cool that you found the same one. I dont think I broke the pin off since the solder point was still covered in dirt. If you look close you can see some red stains on mine too. I thought it was nickel plated maybe? But chrome makes sense too. GL & HH

Don......

Thanks everyone! I think that link you posted was the first site I looked at Don. I then looked at ebay and there was a mint one for $150 bucks. Kinda crazy. Just glad to have it on display. Should I glue the pin back on it?

That’s to cool! Super find, congrats:occasion14:
