This is the leather pouch, purse or wallet the twenty dollar gold coins were in.
Atleast whats left off it.
You can see the impressions were the coins were inside.
Is there a web site that shows old purses. Why two buckles.
One buckle has a piece of a leather strap still in it.

Are they snaps or rivets? If they are snaps, I'd say it's an old leather money belt, and the buckles came from the two strips that went around the waist.
