This young lady with Downs Syndrome was selected as the home coming queen at the local high school. None of the young ladies knew who was selected until at the game last night. Amy is a senior that is very much loved by all. Several years ago, when she was in the 7th grade, she was in a Special needs basketball game held in Hot Springs. The game consisted of two schools with mixed special needs and normal ball players. At one point, much to the delight of everyone, Amy was dribbling towards the other end of the court when she suddenly stopped and put the ball on the floor. Then she went through a well rehearse cheerleader routine, with jumps and all. The place erupted with clapping and cheers as she did it. Then she stopped, picked up the ball and continued to the basket. As you can tell in this picture, she was very excited and her escorts very happy for her. In this world today, this was a very bright and shining moment for her and everyone else there. Crazy awesome!

Hi. Great story. Thanks for sharing:icon_thumright:

This is the kind of news and story I like to see thank you!!!

That's just too cool, dirtlooter.

I'm happy that's she is smiling in the photo, but honestly I never know quite how to take these kinds of events.

Did she get the crown because she has D.S. or in spite of it? We really don't know and probably never will. I think the reason why matters.

I'm still glad everybody is smiling in the photo. And yeah I think that Amy doing a cheer in the middle of a play was a cool move given the circumstances. Please don't call me a hater, I'm not interested in hate. I'm just interested in the truth.

That is the smile I needed this morning! Thank's Dirt!:hello2:

Great story DL. Her smile says it all.
