This Is Where The Exposure To CRH Lies

The recent posts about all the new comers to this forum seems rather childish with many members acting like kids who just got their favorite Saturday baseball game invaded by a group of other kids. "Heeeeyyyyyyy guys......We were here first!!" Some members even going so far as to post comments like, "How long before they mess it up for us..." Many members have been very welcoming also, so I don't want to give the impression everyone is bashing the new members.

That aside, I do not think this forum is where the problem lies. I looked at youtube and was amazed at what I saw there. People will stumble on these videos by accident as they have so many tags/keywords that will pop up on when people do searches. Take a look at this guys video and tell me this won't get some new comers joining the CRH hobby. My favorite comment is when he says, "This is an average haul", and finds some WL, Bens, 64's, etc...." Would be great if that was average.

I say the more the merrier. I have been CRHing since the early 80s. In earnest since about 1999. We haven't managed to deplete all the cool coins yet! It's really a hobby to me, and it's more fun with people to share the experience with. My daughter makes CRH way more fun when she goes with me on a run.

Same goes for posting on here. I love to read about everyone's finds and even get new tips. My experience is 99% of people tire pretty quickly on CRH after they get skunked a few times. I"m not that worried.

Happy hunting!

I agree with MU. Even outside of the forum I have run into folks that are yelling about newcomers ruining the playing field. A few years ago in CA as I was leaving a bank someone saw me lugging a bag of halves to the car. He more of less accused me of the same. I guess he was a small budget hunter and didn't appreciate that I could afford a $1000 at a whack. I informed this person in so many words that from his looks I had been CRH longer than he he had been walking this earth. Secondly that he needed to mind his own business. That didn't set well with him, but that's life. I still run into someone occasionally in the bank as I'm picking up halves that ask if I culling silver. No reason to lie about it.

Back to the basis of the thread. Even I get frustrated that someone beats me to even a few rolls of CWR halves. That's life - nothing I can do about it. But newcomers to the forum should be welcome. If the finds do dry up nationwide or just in your local area because of so many newcomers - again that's life. I hope you didn't plan on taking all this silver into the afterlife if you get splattered on the freeway. IMO if this is your sole sole source of income, you need to get a job. But that's taking this subject off the deep end.

In ways the same attitude can be brewing in the metal detecting community. "Someone invaded MY beach. Go away this is MY beach". Get at grip!

If someone wants to make videos and broadcast them on the internet of CRH, you're not going to stop them and acting childish isn't going to do any good. If they lie about their finds in the video - again nothing can be done about it.

HH - enjoy the ride!

As long as everybody has their own Sandbox to play in, we have lots of fun.

I do sympathize with those who have severe competition.

But then, every time you open a roll, how many people have had those same coins in their hands?

If you think it's bad now.......

You're Welcome, Keep on Rollin' !!

Why is the newbie such a sensitive topic to some? I haven't seen any bashing of newbies on here. I think I had the strongest comments about asking stupid questions, as I get annoyed with same dumb questions that could have been answered with some reading of posts. But hey that's me, we all have a right to an opinion.

Personally when I found out about this hobby, I kept quiet, I read and I went out and found a crap load of silver. I'm a nice guy and very generous, helping people fiscally all the time. But seems to me treasure hunting is different. I mean I stumbled on to this hobby after I got into PM's several years ago. It was this country's financial problems and flat our criminal activity that brought me to PM's. "I have been doing my part and encouraging family and friends to but silver PM, and warning them of the times to come.

Everybody else has had the same warning as all of us that know whats up. Why in the world would i want to help somebody with tips and tricks that may live in my area and become competition? I can't think of a single reason. :dontknow:

There are are other reasons not to share but I have shared enough. :laughing7:

yeah you tube is going to make a lot of newcomers. Another thing I saw the other day when I was asking for halves.. A teller next to me asks a guy he's helping "why does everyone want halves?" And the guy replies "You can sell the silver ones for 14 dollars a piece." I was so irritated that he would tell a bank teller this. And the teller was amazed at how much they were worth, and they guy just kept talking to him about it. Before they talked this bank teller had absolutely no idea what coin roll hunting was, and now I guarantee he will be a cherry pickin teller.

While dumping some rolls of halves, the teller asked if it would be worth his time to search them. I told him that i was a collector of older U.S. coins and that I doubted that I had missed much worth keeping. He told me he was picking silver himself and showed off a '64 Ken he had recently found. As he continued, he spoke of the many people coming in looking for halves and that one told him that he only wanted the silver coins because of their soaring value. This is what started his interest in searching and I'm sure not much gets past him now.

All this talk about CRHing and competition gets me worn out. As much as I don't like it, I know that it is just a matter of time especially if silver prices go up. I was actually glad when it dropped in May. If you guys don't want it to get out as much, don't post your results. Amongst other hobbies, I'm starting a new one, DAY TRADING on the STOCK MARKET. More profitable than CRHing. No competition on this one.

Just started last week, made $60 on small gains. With all the volitility on the market. I only do day trades. I'll sell if the Stock/ETF goes up on a 0.25% gain. I figure with the summation of small gains, it'll all add up. Key thing is to sell all in a day. Don't hold it over night. Who knows what will happen over night.

If you are referring to my post on another thread yesterday, I believe you have taken it out of context.

I am talking about the guy that ordered $750 in dimes and quarters from my local bank, took them home, sorted them...and believe it or not, carried all $750 back to the bank in zip lock bags, demanding that he get his $750 back in cash, and expected the tellers to count and wrap all that change, while he stood and watched.

Or how about the new guy that dumped $3,000 in rolled halves at another bank, in one single transaction?

What about the other newbie that complained and groaned that my supply bank order him 2 boxes a week, but never picked them up? Sure, it gave me 2 more boxes to search, but the head teller was MAD!!! Those two boxes sat in her vault for over a month, jamming up extremely valuable space. After throwing a hissy fit in the lobby, and threatening to call the VP of the bank, that dude showed up 2 months later and was angry and yelling that the tellers "sold those boxes out from under me." To make matters worse, some of the tellers got confused and accused me of not picking up my boxes. What a frustrating experience!!!!!!!!!!! >:( >:( >:(

How about the old guy, but a newbie, that went to another supply bank of mine, and in a forceful tone, asked the tellers to "start saving all the silver for him" and that "I'm going to pick up every Monday morning. Please have it ready, because I'm going to stop in on my morning break from work, and I'll be in a hurry." I am especially happy that he informed them that silver was at $50 an ounce, and going to $300. Thanks pal, now these tellers are searching for themselves.

That is the kind of stuff I am talking about.

FWIW, I've helped a number of newbies, especially the young ones, in learning how to score more rolls and supply banks.
