I dug this little pin item yesterday and there was something about it that made me think "femur pin", a brooch that would go on an apron possibly in the 1800's. Anyone else, what do you think?

I'm actually wondering if what I have could be a dress pin?

How about a diaper pin?

It kind of looks like an old hair pin.

How about a clip from a tussie mussie brooch?

Great thoughts old digger and DC Matt. I'm going to clean it up a little more today. It almost feels like silver to me.

We used to use pins like that for attaching tags to rolls of carpet or other large fabric rolls. Have also seen them used to hold tool chits on large construction jobs.

Thanks for your vote of confidence! It looks like either a KILT pin or a BLANKET pin to me. Judging by the 'head,' it appears to be an old one.
Unusual & Neat find :)

Thanks for your response Breezie, I trust your judgment. Wonder how old it could be? It was dug near a street that was there in the Civil War.

Still not quite sure, I found a couple of pics for reference but it could be CW related, the metal seems very sturdy, not rusty at all, unlike a safety pin type material from this era.

last pic on the bottom i have used ones identical on Aircraft and have one or two here at the house, and have seen then used on mesh laundry bags

Yeah, that's why I'm not convinced it is from a blanket roll. The pics above are actual CW era blanket roll pins.

I've been wondering where Ms. Breezie has been, good to see her/you! :hello:
CG, that thing almost looks like a little mini torch/flame sparker. It looks like a smaller version of the big ones I've seen for starting up torches. (can't remember the "techy" name for the things..... :icon_scratch:)
See, with my kinda guessings, it's a good thing we got Ms. Breezie and all you others. :laughing7:

Appears to be missing something that had been attached to the small end.
Notice how flat the backside of the round wire is where the broken off piece would have extended up the back side.

Appears to have been more of a clip than a pin but without the broken off piece it's hard to tell :dontknow:

I think it's a diaper pin too. They had the two sided ends like that.

Closest diaper pin I've found is......

And not what you have.

Yours reminds me of a broken drapery hook for pleated drapes.
But I'm pretty sure that's not what you have.
