Was probably one of my least productive.....at least so far.
Bank #1 was a bank where I had my name on the bag of halves to buy it when it got full as the last time I was there I had cashed in a few halves and heard the familiar silver tinging in the bag. That time the teller picked out about 2 handfuls and I traded the 8 loose halves I had for the 8 silver ones in her hands. I was told the bag was about half full at the time and probably be full in October.
Well today when I went back, it turns out they sold most of the halves in the bag to someone else....:P I had asked to do that last time and they had said, "No". Oh well, at least I had already picked out some of them. I imagine whoever got them probably got 40-50 silvers based on the couple handfuls I had seen.
I ended up picking up the remaining $144 in halves from coin machine (1 - 1968-D, 1 Sac dollar, 2 dimes, 1 penny)
2 - $100 bags of nickels
2 - $50 bags of pennies (this is same bank I have now gotten 2 1909 pennies from this year)
Bank #2
No halves, but I spotted a 1964-D silver dime in tellers tray
Bank #3
$34.50 in loose halves..skunk
Bank #4
Nothing
Bank #5
I got the impression they had more, but they would only sell me 1 Fed roll of half dollars. 1 - 1968-D
Bank #6
$1 in loose halves..skunk
Bank #7
Nothing
Bank #8
$60 in Fed rolled halves..skunk
Bank #9
Cashed in rejects..nothing to buy
Bank #10
Nothing. I then stopped at the antique store next door to the bank in this small farming town on a whim. I couldn't find any coins so I asked, the lady says "All we have are some silver dollars and some half dollars." The "silver dollars" were all clad Ikes and the half dollars were all clad as well, except one. Hoping she wasn't aware of it, I asked how much for the half dollars...."$3 each". hmm, wonder how many clad halves she sells for $3.
Since it was only a 40%, I left it there. If it were a 90% I would have bought it for $3.
Bank #11
$74 in halves from the coin machine..skunk. Though I did pick up a 1996 2-dollar Canadian coin for 50 cents.
Bank #11
$2 in half dollars..skunk and 1 - 1943-P War Nickel from the tellers tray.
Bank #12
$30 in hand rolled halves..skunk
Bank #13
Since it was about 5 minutes before noon (Sat closing time) and I still had cash left, I picked up the following:
$2 in loose halves..skunk
$500 bag of quarters (off the coin machine)
$500 bag of dimes (off the coin machine)
And 45 rolls of nickels (they couldn't get in the vault to get a full box.)
After that I stayed in that town and tried MD'ing for a couple of hours in a couple of their local parks. Didn't really find much though, maybe 10-15 coins, very trashy.
Hope the bags are good since the results for the trip so far were quite meager by my standards.
Totals so far.
2 - 40% Kennedy (out of $357 searched)
1 silver dime
1 war nickel
and a few bags left to search which hopefully will improve the results.
