Thanks TAKODA, but what's considered ancient? I ask because I live in a glacial drift zone and it seems as if all the 'good' stuff was stripped or pushed down south. Come to think of it, gravity did the same number on me....LOL

It is betroidal (sp?) quartz (chalcedony) inside a geode. The area around Bloomington is full of them. Someone probably threw it there either when it broke wrong or they didn't want geodes of that particular form.

Chalcedony? perhaps... but not 100% positive with that ID.
But I can kinda see where you'd get that.
I've attached another pic for reference.

Bloomington is an easy 3 hours south of me.

The white stuff inside, if it is stone, looks to me like common opal. I have found geodes with common opal in them. Opal is not just in Australia.
