This will probably be my last hunt for 2018 since it's supposed to rain tomorrow. I woke up sore and stiff, so I popped a couple of Aleve and grabbed up my detectors and headed out the door. The first place that I hit was a dud. I remembered another site that I hit about a year ago with one of detecting buddies, so I headed out to greener pastures.
I decided to work the steep hill area since most people don't like to detect them. It didn't take long for me to get my search coil over what sounded like a quarter on edge. I popped a Standing Liberty quarter, my 6th one for the year. I know that I've been over the area before and so have a couple of other guys. I got lucky and hit just right. That find made my day and everything else was going to be gravy.
Before leaving the steep hillside, I cornered a couple of Buffalo Nickels, an Indian Head penny and few wheat pennies. Several of those coins were also on edge. I guess the steep bank did that to coins. I was really happy with the way the detector was handling the on edge coins so I went through the settings to make sure that I wouldn't forget the settings that were working so well.
After getting back on the flat ground I got a good high tone and popped 1/2 of a 1902 One Penny. I went a little bit further and found the other half several feet away. I wonder what the odds are of that happening.
I wasn't expecting to find anything else good up on the flat area since it has been hit pretty hard before. Right off I got a 31 on the display and that's a silver quarter all day long. Sure enough, I popped a 1907 Barber Quarter. I was shocked because it wasn't that deep and nothing was masking it. I went a few yards further and had the same scenario happen again, but this time it was a 1908 Barber Quarter. I don't know how they got missed before. My next find was a 1920 Mercury Dime, it was acting a little funny because it may have been on edge.
Anyhow, it was getting about lunch time so I loaded up and headed for the house. It's time to start off a new year of detecting.
