I found this today, my only interesting find of the week so far. I dug it about 5" on a vacant lot that I've been hunting off and on lately. When it popped out and I saw the gold color, and the words SOUTH AFRICA and SUID AFRIKA, I nearly fell over thinking KRUGERRAND!!!!!!
But no, it's a penny a 1954, with a hole in it.
All the other ones I've found online seem to just be copper though, so I'm wondering if this one is actually gold plated. There are spots where the plating has worn off and the copper is visible....
