Thought I'd pay a visit to my training cornfield.

I was pretty much a rookie in farm field hunting last year. Been a LONG time since I
could call myself a rookie! LOL

Anyway, the ground was pretty nice today. Not many stalks to stumble over like last year.
I gotta admit, cornfields are just not my bag. I have a LOT of respect for those who do this
exclusively.

Spent 3 hours, nice day, nice walk and even a surprise find or two.




Not much on relic hunting either but occasionally I get
interested in a big iron signal. The one Blingie is riding
is solid and weighs in at almost 5 pounds!

The other one has a sort of squarish pick on one end and the other is sort
of flattened.


The requisite leads.


I'll tell you, I've hunted this place for days without
ever SEEING a coin! So, finding 4 today was a real pleasure!

That is just SUCH a pleasure to see!

I love your Barber dime. I've been in a slump now for about a month. About every place I go has been heavy with trash and iron. So I got to thinking. What is the melt value for iron these days? Heck I might just give up trying to find old coins and jewelry and dig all the iron hits I get everywhere.

You're more adventurous than I am, lol. If it looks like a big iron target, I usually leave it. Great Barber. I am still looking for my first in any denomination. Cornfields aren't bad IF the farmer disks the fields after the harvest. With fuel prices being what they are, who can blame them for not? I have hunted the fields I can until I am satisfied right now, but it will be interesting to see this next fall if I can find anything more after this growing season.

We all have to define what a "slump" is in our own travels. If it means not finding silver or gold, then there are a LOT of slumps going on!
But, if we go out to enjoy that we can STILL can pursue our hobby, well we can get that satisfaction on every dig. Just need to adjust the perspective.

Of course, if one is trying to pay the mortgage with what they find, (they have my sympathy), then yeah, most digs are going to be a disappointment.

I'd bet though, that if you concentrated on the iron hits more, you'll be surprised at how many times you'll get a "coin" hit that will just be too tempting to deny. LOL

Got a truck? Salvage scrap. Decent money in that. Easier to find metal on the street or just asking people than in digging it out of the ground.
