Thought this was a neat find in an 1887 newspaper

Doing some research into the history of my area and came across this snippet in an 1887 newspaper:

"Those who have trade dollars and not yet redeemed them, should attend to the matter of redemption speedily. A little over a month yet remains in which to have these coins redeemed. After July 1, 1887, they will not be honored by the Government, and all out after that time will be worth only their weight as bullion."

That's cool! I wonder what the trade dollars were made of?
I looked it up. Wow, silver and selling for about 149. each in today's market.

I guess the Trade Dollar would have been equivalent to our ASE dollar, as nearly one ounce silver, bigger & heavier than the Morgan & Peace.

And they were faked even then. I dug one up about 8 inches down, got excited, jumped around, then put a magnet to it and bbbbaaammm. hopes and dreams shattered. But the dig was fun.
