When I purchased my unit about a year ago with stock 8" coil I was impressed. It seemed to do well find coins trash and other items. I purchased the 11" DD coil about 6 months ago. After quite a few hunts I have found 1 chucky cheese coin... /laugh /cry....that's it. Trash separation? None existent. Proper coin id? Sporadic and not reliable. My wife buried some change in the back yard...yeah its still out there. Pinpointing? Buzzzzzzzzzzzzz... ok let's try that again... buzzzzzzzzzzz. Wow this dime that I have just buried in my own back yard which I know very well must be huge! Does well on air tests though maybe I can catch some falling change. But you put something in plain soil...forget about it. I've tried decreasing sensitive other modes everything is fail with this machine. I've lifted it 2ft off the ground while pinpointing and still buzzzzzzzzz. I don't expect perfection but this is just a waste of money and time. My bounty hunter sharpshooter ii is more reliable not much depth but atleast I know that it wont keep me confused and frustrated.

Have you tried putting the 8 incher back on it? If the machine works with the 8 incher but everything goes to heck with the 11 incher, it's probably a bad searchcoil.

Note however that the 11 incher does not respond the same as the 8 incher, and if you're not using it properly you're likely to be unhappy with it even if it's in perfectly good shape. On targets less than about 2-3 inches deep the DD has a very non-uniform response which you have to become familiar with, otherwise shallow targets will give you fits.

There's a good essay on the differences between searchcoils on the Teknetics websites.

Good point. I will run tests with the 8" coil. Maybe try a more angular shaft setting with the DD coil too.

I had the delta and had very similer problems,so I got rid of it. The delta just isn't good at target id'ing.

Also when pinpointing with a DD coil you pinpoint off the toe and heel of the coil, not the center like a concentric coil.

Ok thanks. Im going to give it a good go. Hopefully its just me not being used to the machine and coil and not the machine.
