Thoughts on what this may be?

Hello I found two of these items, they appear to be brass or bronze. About the size of a standard 45 round. Not sure if this is part of a projectile or not, it was found on an island where there was military activity during the Spanish American war era....Thanks

1860s and on but was probably obsolete by the 1880s or so...a short lived final adaptation of the muzzle loaded rifle
