I was finally able to get to an old house deep in the bush. The grass was pretty intense and the ticks were insane, by next weekend it will be undetectable. It's too bad because I figure it's a virgin site, I found these three goodies right near the house. Damn you grass lol! Next spring I'll try to get there AS SOON as the ground thaws and the grass is flattened.

The IH is 1896, and the silver pin was nice to find. Anybody know silver hallmarks? I figure it's attributed to Arthur Johnson Smith of Birmingham, but I'm not sure of the year.

Good stuff, Damn ticks.

That silver pin is a beauty. I've had 8 ticks on me the last 2 trips out. I wear gloves a hat and king sleeves and pants. Not sure how they get on me but they do. They're actually killing moose in Maine this year. There's something more potent about the Lyme disease which is very scary!

Nice finds j
Abe, do you remember the thread about the woman that was telling me lymes was introduced by the government and jessy venturie was saying it was started by government? Better not mess with them ticks buddy, makes that gun of mine seem like a toy

Wow! Holy crap am I in the dark and naive :-) I thought it was a naturally occurring phenomenon in the nature. Damn government is responsible for everything. Prob responsible for me not finding any Spanish silver yet. I'm gonna chat with my representative....or Jesse Ventura. Whoever has the most pull. Thanks for the info partner :-)

i bring a can of spray with me everywhere for the ticks, and some cigars for the nats

What you might be referring to is the Lineage II Powassan virus from black legged ticks (deer ticks) which has a 10 to 15 percent fatality rate in documented cases and some survivors are left with permanent neurological damage. If the tick carries the illness Lyme disease can be transmitted within a few hours or up to two days. Oftentimes, this gives victims a “grace period” to remove the tick and possibly avoid being infected. Unfortunately, the Powassan virus is not as patient. Unlike many of the common illnesses transmitted by ticks, the virus transmission can take as little as 15 minutes.

That silver pin is gorgeous. Very nice find.

Great finds! Thanks for sharing...

Thanks guys, and thanks Pointman for the hallmark info.

As for the ticks, yes they are pesky buggers. Lyme disease is fairly uncommon around here, but it can happen. At least I don't have to worry about poisonous snakes up here! I seriously doubt "the government" introduced Lyme disease in some sinister plot. I don't buy into all the conspiracy theories lol.
