I was out in the water yesterday with a friend of mine, he was using his Tiger shark. He was going fine then his machine started to play up. It kept giving false signals and became uncontrollable. He got out of the water and tried it on dry land. The problem was obviously in the coil. If you shook or disturbed the coil this noise started. It would not operate in properly salt mode but would work slightly in disc mode. We think water has got inside the coil and into the windings. Looks like he is up for another coil. Whats the best place to get one, anyone got a spare one ? seeya Neilo :help:

I'd send it in to Tesoro.

I wish your friend luck. My Tiger Shark had a similar problem. I was told there is a leak in the coil. Unfortunately Tesoro is currently having a problem with their waterproof coil connectors. I shipped mine to Tesoro in May. I'm still waiting.

Thanks Sandman thats a very good article. It turned out the coil lead connection had a leak where it attatches to the control box. It needed cleaning and drying out then some silicon type grease to seal it and so far it has been fine. The area we were detecting has areas of black sand and the machine struggles a bit but apart from that it is operating well. Thanks Neilo

Very good information. It might save someone quite a bit of down time. Dielectric grease is cheap and can be bought at any auto parts store. Divers grease would probably work as well. Everyone with a water detector ought to have it on hand anyway.

I thought it was funny when I got my Tiger Shark that the connector didn't have an o-ring. I had bought grease for the control box o-ring and used it just incase. I asked the forum and was told it was like it was supposed to be.
