I recently bought a Tiger shark and have a question about ground balancing it. I have no problem doing it on land and can easily set it where the threshold remains constant in all metal fast when quickly lowering the coil. My question is (This may be a dumb question but I want to know for sure) do you need to ground balance it when you are in the water? I tried this and could only get a negative threshold hum no matter how much I turned the knob.

Also, should the headphone cable have any white exposed underneath the brown cover. To explain better, there is a spot near the box where the headphones screw in where you can see white underneath the brown. I am afraid water could get in and wanted to be sure before I got it wet.

Thanks.

First, welcome to the forum for your first post. :hello:

Sometimes in the water they won't GB like they do on land. Are you doing it in saltwater as this makes a difference.

As for the white wire showing, this isn't right and call Tesoro about sending it back in. You didn't say you bought it new or used and I expect used as this is a gross slip up. If it is used and you don't want to send it in you can always apply Silicone sealant to the area to water proof it.

Good Luck,
Sandman

Thanks for the welcome - Great forum

I will be detecting in a freshwater tidal river. Depending on the amount of rain the salinity varies quite a bit. So, not the ocean but not a lake either.

I bought this detector used but it hasn't been used. I bought form a really nice guy who used to sell detectors but no longer does. He kept the tiger Shark with plans to use it but never did. So used but brand new. I looked at the connection again and I think it is how it should be. Looks like the white it the waterproof connection where the headphone line enters the box. I thought it may be cut but it looks lie the black circular covering just covers the main line and it stops at the white conneciton at the box. I hope this makes sense as it is hard to describe it.

Thanks for your help.
