Hey I just got the tiger shark seemed to be the choice. It seems impossible to ground balance in the wet sand in salt mode,no matter how i tune the balance there seems to be metal everywhere,I tried to turn down the sensitivity but still...Is there any tips?how can I use this md for water an wet sand? any help would be apreciated!

You've got an excellent machine in the Tiger Shark for water hunting. You may be having problems because there just may be lots of trash where your trying to balance. I believe you should balance in All Metal-Fast mode first and then switch the salt switch for hunting. I am not 100% sure as I'd have to hunt up my manual. I mainly use the Excal which doesn't need GB in salt water or any where for that matter.

Keep looking for the Clean Sweep Coil for the Tiger Shark too. It was discontinued and now is available only for the Umax and Sand Tiger. With it you will make short work of a beach area as it it 18X3 inches.

Re: tiger shark salt problems

yeah ill try that,Its because I have a black sand here in maui.I always tune it in fast mode, you mean tune it in normal mode first?I talk to the tesoro customer care an he said ground balance in normal an take it in the water like that....well one thing for sure the sensitivity has to come down...I bought this for the water as thats were the gold is,I just got to get the falsing to stop. When the waves comes up it goes crazy an when I swing it too. When I drop it to test the ground balance to 1 inch, silence an then it barks hard! we got some trash here on the beaches, its not as bad as the states I am sure.I dont believe it to be metal though. It works great on the dry sand no problem with minerals!I hunt in fast metal mode to go deep an here all.well if you say it works for you with no problems I am sure it should for me.probably more black sand here i am sure..

Thanks sandman

Oh, your in Maui, I understand the minerals there are not the norm due to the whole island chain is volcanic. Still the combination of saltwater and black sand can do a number on all detectors.... Like you said, Sensitivity has to come down. Many falsely believe more is better when in fact the opposite is true. I would also check for radio towers or microwave transmit towers. I have one fresh water beach in Michigan that I have a hard time hunting because of the State Police post nearby that when they transmit, my detectors act up. I never thought radio waves would do that.

Good Luck,

All detectors?so maybe throw some targets in the water once I tune it the best i can an listen for the changes?I guess only time will tell?Radio waves effect your detecting thats amazing!

Ok will try again tomorrow..

The reason why radio waves effect Metal detecting.
Your Metal Detector is a Transceiver. (Transmitter and Receiver)

It Transmits and Receives Radio waves VLF (Very Low Frequencies).
It is actually being overloaded in the front-end of the receiver (Your Metal Detector).

Also you will notice that if you are close to another MD of the same make the talk to each other. They will drive you crazy.

It is just like when you hear a CB voices over your TV or FM Stereo. That is what Front end overload is. (Interference)

After rereading this topic I thought to ask you if you have other hunters near by using PI's, these will cause VLF's to go crazy. It is my opinion that with the bad ground you have there and the combination of black sand and salt water, your detector may be operation at the edge of it's stable operation. If you are using a coil cover, take it off and clean it out. Extra sand and saltwater can throw off a detector as sensitive as a Tiger Shark.

Because of your location, there isn't much I can help you with. Sometimes even PI's go unstable where your at.

One thing worth noting is that (according to the manual) when GB in Salt mode you turn the Sens knob + for less.
