I've had these awhile, they were found at Shiloh at a old home place that burned down in the sixties. Don't believe there civil war era. The man that lived in the home was a ww1 or2 veteran and died in the house fire. His last name was Burks. Is this the tip of a sword scabard and what era is the US badge? 20190830_130303.jpg 20190830_130325.jpg

The badge is 20th century, I'm not sure of the scabbard piece.

I've talked to many people that lived around him when he was alive. They said he was burnt with mustard gas during the war. He returned home and a couple of years later, the wife and children left for her folks home. Said he was really messed up after the war, would never leave the house in the daytime. The house burned one day and no one could get in because the doors were barred from the inside and he would not open them. Said you could here him inside screaming to leave him alone while the house burned around him.
