Relic Hunting
In a previous posting I thanked Scrappy for the 8 setting on the Deus.
Cru stated that he ran in 12, so I thought why not try the same small site again.
I put in around 4 hrs of detecting and produced yet another batch of great returns.
I started off digging nothing but big iron, and decided to go off the old railway bed and onto the actual site.
First good target comes from the sloping rear of the site. I'm not sure what the coin/token is yet but I was tickled to see it in the dirt.

Then came the OH Ya! Moment, where another great looking copper from this site is going to be a keeper. Believe it is a George lll, no date great looking and I'm doing a little bit of a happy dance for popping this one.

The next find to give me that "Nice" feeling was a very loud 88, and turning the soil over I caught a glimpse of the color of gold. No idea of what it might be, but from the gold wash it must been something good. If someone can help me with the ID I'd be very interested.

So a few more buttons and a few pieces of iron that I've never dug before made for a very interesting hunt at a bottom feeding site.
One piece of iron was the little oxen shoe, and the other one was the small hammer head.

So here are the piles of good, and the iron. Thanks for looking.

Not a bad day! I run the 12 setting on my Deus too and really like it. :icon_thumright:

..: NICE FINDS Pepper :..
Thanks for sharing!

I'll venture a pure and uneducated guess about the gold washed thing.
It looks a bit like one I found about a year ago. I believe it turned out to be some sort of scabbard/sword/knife
holder for a mounted soldier. Hope that helps.

Great over all finds!

thanks for your reply, that's pretty neat if it turns out to be the same thing. Would you have a picture or link of your find?

Very nice Blacksmith token. Finding one is high on my list but I'll likely never get remotely close to one. I'm glad the 12 KHz works for you. Truth be told, I often search in 8, then work a found site with 12 and 18 after I hit it in 8. Then repeat. My take on the whole thing is it's user specific.

Killer token again

That's an interesting imitation Geo III, funky & bad spelling.

Thanks Scrappy

I was doing that today but with little results as they've now planted most of the field site. The one main iron site I switched back and forth and it produced a lead button and LC. Great machine though, liking the weight factor and it's ability to separate.

Nice finds! Congratulations on the beautiful Wood-33! There's been some ongoing research about these coins lately. They are listed with the Blacksmiths and also with Evasions but may end up in their own little stand alone group. A definite link to colonial Canada though.

The first coin I think could be an 1816 Upper Canada / Brock token-

Coins and Canada - Sir Isaac Brook - 1/2 penny 1816 - Pre-confederation commercial tokens

I'm going to mark this one up as a ol' age moment. I just dug one on=f those the other day. DAH! Thanks for the ID on the beat copper.

When they started stamping them out around 1825 they had to make them look worn and a little different so they could circumvent the laws on counterfeiting coinage.
Something you might be digging on your side of the pond. :)
Thanks for your input regarding the settings Cru, if there's anyone that know what works is you.

That KG copper is in tremendous shape. Any chance that it's a Machin's Mills specimen? Nice digging.
