I don't own an 808, but I read somewhere in the last few days that their area of detection doesn't begin until some distance below the ground surface. It also said that they are not designed for smallish targets. I don't remember the exact distances of detection, but I think it said from about 2 to 20 feet on large objects. The manual might give an idea of the target sizes it will work on.

Interesting, if this is true. :) I must test...
I know it, that detectors can't "see" small targets but this coin stack is not too small, i think ::)
 

It does not sound like you have it ground balanced right also if you are in auto mode the signal will fade away if no motion is made. Dan
 

I think the smallest target that you can reliably detect is Coke can sized object up to 5 feet. That is about a meter and a half max depth.
